Please explain how to make a flat white.. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kykai4
How many shots? And how do you get the dot in the center? I know it takes practice, but damn why is it so hard?

As you’re pouring the milk in, try to swirl the pitcher in a round motion to fully incorporate the milk into the espresso shots for the brown body and that way, you can have the nice dot on top. Also, when you pour, hold the pitcher high so that the milk comes down first and then lower the pitcher when you are ready for the dot. Have fun.

Yea I’ve been working at Starbucks for almost a year now and I still have trouble pouring a flat white

The shots are 2/3/3 and ristretto and it’s whole milk. The pouring technique takes practice, but it’s really about steaming your milk properly to start.

My flat white secret is catching the shots in the shot glass and pouring them into the cup at an angle to eliminate air bubbles and splash marks from the shots. I don't know how to properly explain how to get the milk perfect without showing you in person :( but it is very important to swirl the milk in the pitcher and tap the air bubbles out of the milk. pour it the milk at a steady pace. you can't rush perfection and a perfect flat white takes some time. another great suggestion would be to watch a youtube tutorial so you can see it done rather than just reading about it. try watching before you go in so you can remember the techniques better

So it is ristretto shots (short shots), whole milk, and what is referred to as a pencil pour. You want to get a steady stream right in the middle of the cup with the espresso in there (start by tilting the cup slightly and start close to the cup and slowly pull the pitcher away) and lengthen the pour while avoiding bubbles. (Takes practice) then at the end, your foam should be dumped and form a perfect little white circle on top! You got this!! Maybe look up tutorial videos or ask your local barista to demonstrate. I know I would be honored!

A lazy cappuccino?? Lol that's how I think of it. I personally love doing flat whites and would love to make latte art but it never works out for me

It’s 2/2/3/3 for the shots. Venti iced is 4 I think.
