Oh my god that’s my biggest fear. I’m very very allergic to milk so I’m extra careful with that. Lol I’m always panicking and if I double guess I start over haha I wish no one to react the way I do. Lol
thememequeenv3 28 points 3y ago
I'm allergic to gluten so I always shame partners who blend cake pops and stuff
coolcactus69 21 points 3y ago
Idk why you're being downvoted, people shouldn't be blending food anyway
thememequeenv3 9 points 3y ago
I guess they don't care about getting other people seriously sick 🤷‍♀️
coolcactus69 5 points 3y ago
Apparently not, seems like it's more important to them to make silly drinks instead of trying to keep people safe 🤦‍♀️
mcr0414 10 points 3y ago
Are you celiac?!? If so happy celiac awareness month!
thememequeenv3 7 points 3y ago
Yes! Omg I totally forgot with quarantine! Happy celiac awareness month to you too!
WastingTime1994 3 points 3y ago
Careful of any java chip frappes or anything that has java chips.
thememequeenv3 2 points 3y ago
Aren't those just chocolate? I can't have the mocha cookie crumble because of the cookie topping, but I've never gotten sick from frap chips
WastingTime1994 2 points 3y ago
They have wheat in them! I have limited knowledge about wheat vs gluten, so you may be okay

\> Blend cake pops

IS THAT EVEN LEGAL!? This is the first time i heard of that and imagining a blended cake pop frap / drink.....................no. Just. NO!
thememequeenv3 1 points 3y ago
As if cake pops and fraps on their own aren't ridiculously sweet
MemesandSpeech [OP] 2 points 3y ago
And the red velvet loaf's............And the cranberry bliss bar's (Those......are my weakness T.T)
mcr0414 0 points 3y ago
It was a “secret recipe “ when I started 2011 people ordered it all the time at all different locations I worked. We stopped doing it when I transferred and my new manager was tired of switching out the blenders after and just told us to say no. Lol I still just say no. My manager now does it on the reg. tho 🙄
MemesandSpeech [OP] 0 points 3y ago
Ok so here's the big question...........IS THERE REALLY A SECRET MENU!? I have been working for months and I have never heard a customer say "Oh, you can't find it on the system cause it's a secret menu drink" and I be hearing from my store, THERE'S NO SECRET MENU!

WHICH IS IT!? >.<
hit-or-miss-my-ass 3 points 3y ago
Never seen anyone blend food wtf hahaha. Seems like it’d destroy the blender
MemesandSpeech [OP] 3 points 3y ago
We can blend bananas but i never heard of blending of food....................................heck If it was slow and i was truly bored..............Id probably make a EGG BITE Frapp!
mcr0414 2 points 3y ago
A big one was a lemon loaf people would blend in with lemonade and soy milk and something else it was gross

As a former barista myself, I always try to be careful when someone orders soy/coconut/almond milk but during rush I have probably messed up a couple times too. Thankfully for most people the dairy alternative has been simply a preference and I’ve been able to remake it.

A small note to customers: If you’re allergic to dairy or any other product, please consider mentioning it at the register!!! During rush most baristas work on auto pilot mode and and having a note on the cup really helps to be extra extra careful.
thememequeenv3 10 points 3y ago
Another note to customers: We can't guarantee anything allergen-free, but if you give us a head's up, we can limit the cross contamination. Iced espresso drinks won't cross contaminate your non dairy milk with our shared steam wand, so they're a safer bet.
MemesandSpeech [OP] 8 points 3y ago
\> Mention it at the register! (This!)

I had customers at times ordering a drink (No editing / customization) , pay, watch me and just when I put the lid on they say "Is that with soy / coconut / almond / 1% / etc.?" which kinda irritates me seeing as I have to remake it while getting backed with tickets. -\_-

No disrespects at all (Especially if it's a new customer in the store / trying SB)
kediquinn 5 points 3y ago
Yes to all of this. Hate it so much, I remember having a lady order 2 almond milk lattes during rush and she interrupted my flow because she remembered she has a nut allergy. I'm like -_- bro how do you forget what could kill you? She said she was getting almond because she was starting this diet that suggests switching to almond milk as an alternative to dairy.

I usually don't say anything even when I suspect someone's making my drink wrong, because maybe it's not actually my drink. I don't want to be one of those customers who's like, "Hey! Why are you putting a shot of espresso in my hot chocolate? And it's supposed to be skim milk, not almond!" and turns out the drink's for Ali and not me.
aesopamnesiac -11 points 3y ago
I know that you didn't do it on purpose, but that is not a mistake you can make. That is a serious violation to people for many reasons, be it health, religious, ethical, or environmental. Please take more care when making drinks.
oButterballo 7 points 3y ago
didn’t realize we were perfect, karen
aesopamnesiac 6 points 3y ago
I'm a barista, too. I didn't say you can't make mistakes, I said take better care. Food allergies and religious creeds are serious. It's not me being a Karen because I don't want people to get hurt or violated. It's my job not to do that.

edit: Hey guys, I'm lactose intolerant! I can't drink milk! Some people can handle drinking the wrong thing, but the time they can't, it's going to be a serious issue! What the hell is wrong with you guys downvoting someone saying to try your best to be mindful because somebody could get hurt? There's a difference between using nonfat instead of 2% or something like that, but people have serious allergies to dairy, soy, and nuts. Is saying do your best really being so intolerant when you could close a person's throat?
stephanonymous 6 points 3y ago
> I didn't say you can't make mistakes

> but that is not a mistake you can make

Pretty sure this is part of the reason you’re getting downvoted. The thing about mistakes is... they’re mistakes. You can’t plan for which mistakes you’re gonna make and which ones you aren’t. Of course you should always try to be careful, but nobody is perfect. Even doctors make mistakes. There are all kinds of safeguards in healthcare to make sure those mistakes don’t kill people. Starbucks doesn’t have safeguards to make sure you don’t accidentally get regular milk instead of soy, so if someone with a serious dairy allergy is comfortable putting their life in the hands of an overworked kid making $9 an hour, sorry but that is on them.
doomdesire23 5 points 3y ago
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. This can be a serious problem for some people and I can’t imagine a situation where I stopped pouring one type of milk and switch to another where I couldn’t have just restarted the drink. Safety is more important than appearing to never make mistakes.
cannibal_queen071618 4 points 3y ago
You're being downvoted because your telling people they aren't allowed to make mistakes. Also when you make a comment on someone else's saying they should automatically know every single person that orders a milk alternative is allergic is a little far fetched. 1 we're all human 2 we all make mistakes, it happens. Especially during peak so for your safety (the person with the allergy) to speak up and say hey I'm allergic please make sure it's made this way, is not that difficult to do. I, myself do it often because I live near the coast and am allergic to fish. To let people know to take extra precaution with my order and ensure I wont end up in the hospital is part of my every day life.
You can not assume every single person is allergic, you also shouldn't pin your allergies on someone else if you do not make it known.
romansapprentice 3 points 3y ago
You really called someone a Karen over them saying maybe you should do your job right and not seriously injure someone, huh
oButterballo 4 points 3y ago
It’s a mistake that people make on ACCIDENT.
Surgeries fail, fatal car crashes happen, we even forget to lock our cars and houses.
I simply called them a Karen because they told baristas to not make mistake as if we’re perfect.

I’m gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant. I’ve received lattes made with 2% before. Simply get another drink. If you have an allergy that could seriously mess you up, maybe don’t go to a chain that uses the same pitchers/ blenders/ steam wands for all milks. Why take that risk?
I_love_you_drugs 5 points 3y ago
This is how I feel, too. When my partners are being careless and I can see them making the same mistake over and over because they aren’t paying attention or just don’t care, images of people experiencing anaphylactic shock flash through my mind. Mistakes happen, but you’re supposed to learn from them and do better.

Starbucks is food service, and in food service, you need to take these things very seriously.
thememequeenv3 0 points 3y ago
Clearly the people downvoting you have never had a moderate to serious allergy
mcr0414 1 points 3y ago

Ok... cool... why share that thought on THIS post?
beautifulsubterfuge -10 points 3y ago
... on purpose?
mcr0414 14 points 3y ago
I doubt it’s on purpose maybe just an accident and then it’s passed out and too late :(
MemesandSpeech [OP] 5 points 3y ago
Never on purpose, I do admit i can sometimes forget at times which milk is which cause customers and RUSH at times. But if, I ever hear / see a customer with a bad face expression, I apologized and ask to remake it again with the proper milk / procedure.
MemesandSpeech [OP] 3 points 3y ago
Nevah, I do my absolute best to remember what milk is what to avoid any altercations. (At times I do accidentally mix up milks because RUSH and customers be pressuring you to speed up) But I had seen some people (Still in training partners / new) do not truly care what milk's they put, just as long it's made and done.
