College Achievement Plan (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hey y'all,

Is anyone currently enrolled in ASU and have some advice for me? I have been to five different colleges and so my track record isn't great but my GPA is fine. I am looking to do biochemistry and I wanted to learn some more about it before I decide anything. The costs seem really high and I am not sure how expensive it is or is they actually cover all of the costs. I have some bad social anxiety so calling them to ask is a bit difficult for me. I just wanted to see if y'all can fill me in with some helpful advice before I have to call someone and ask.

I basically just want to know the costs, how the classes are, and if it is hard to get ahold of anyone there. I've had colleges refuse to answer their phones so I just wanted to get your opinion.

THANKS! and stay safe out there (:

I graduated through the program! In the end they cover 100% of your tuition. So up front they scholarship 42% of your tuition, you pay 58% either in cash or a loan, then once the semester is over they pay you back all 58% so then it pays you or the loan back. I loved the program! $1 may help to. Let me know if you have questions. Everyone always answered the phone and was so so helpful.

Did you have transfer credits going in? I have about 80 credits to be transferred and I want to make sure they honor them.

Yep I transferred in about 30 and graduated super early since I did summer classes as well

I'm nearing the end of my Bachelors in Biology with this program. I tend to pay about $1,000 a semester which is reimbursed at the end. Also you do have to pay for your own books out of pocket. The classes aren't too bad in my opinion, I struggled with Calculus but I think it's just because it's not my area of expertise. You can always retake a class if it's took difficult, which I did. I think it's a great program because you can do your school work around your work schedule and whatever else you have going on. In comparison to other schools, this is the best deal price wise. The scholarship takes a huge portion of the costs, so it's much more affordable than almost any other school. I highly recommend it!

Are you doing online classes? I'm curious what the labs are like if so.. thanks!
smilygirrl12 1 points 3y ago
Yes I'm doing online classes. Some labs are virtual which is easy in my opinion, they are very different and confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. The confusing part can be when you're not sure what to click next, but they are extremely easy, these were for Biology. Some labs are in person, I haven't done these yet but I supposedly have to go to the campus (I was told it would take a week to complete them during the summer) or a campus near me to take them (I live in California). This is for organic chemistry. Last there are at home labs, these can be hard but not impossible. These were for chemistry, which I'm not the best at which is probably why I thought it was hard. You buy all the equipment, (they tell you exactly what kit to buy and from where, it will have everything you need for the class minus a lab coat) and do it in your home, taking pictures and notes as you go along. Overall, I think the labs weren't bad but just know you won't have lab partners for at home labs or the virtual ones. It was intimidating for me at first, but I got through it!

Well thanks so much for all the info. I applied, but I read that they won't accept you until they have all the transcripts yet one of my schools is closed so I can't get it.

You're welcome! I imagine that once life gets closer to "normal" they'll get what they need and you'll be accepted! I'm not sure if anyone is working there at the moment, but I imagine you could call and see if you can get ahold of someone at ASU. Good luck!

I’m halfway thru my degree here and I love it. The classes are pretty easy to navigate online, and my classes are fairly easy as well just in general. I’m not sure how it would be for biochemistry so I would look into that. Also the staff from the school is incredibly helpful. I had someone help me with the admissions process, its really easy to get ahold of them. Also for payment you first use any grants/scholarships you get. Then starbucks pays 42% up front and you have to pay the other 58% (either with loans or the last semesters refund) and then at the end of the semester you get a refund for that 58%! If you have any questions you can PM me too! I’m really enjoying getting my degree here though.

What degree are you going after?

Anthropology, so I dont have labs or anything like a biochemistry degree would have, so I cant give too much information on what online labs would be like that. But other than that I love my online experience
