Iced London Fog (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kitmol07
What’s the standard way to make the iced London fog? I’ve made it a couple of times and I’m a trainer so I just want to confirm that I’m doing it correctly so I’m not teaching people the wrong thing! It almost never gets ordered at our store but it bothers me that I’m not 100% certain of the correct way to make it.
Thanks!!

My old SM said to use the iced measurements on the pour over pitcher to measure the hot water, then steep the number of tea bags required for the size. After that I would pour the steeped tea in a shaker, add milk and ice, and shake. I never have looked that up on the hub though.
Edit: also don’t forget the vanilla

I believe this is the correct and standard way to make it! (I’m a trainer and Shift)

At my store, we were told that the black iced tea we make is the same tea used for the london fog (earl grey), so whenever we are asked for an iced london fog tea latte, we just do black iced tea with vanilla and milk.

Black iced tea = royal English breakfast tea, not earl grey.

Is there a way to actually check this? Like on the box maybe? I would love to point this out to my fellow baristas now that I'm coming back this week :)

Great question. It might say on the box? I’m also coming back this week. I think the easiest way to tell is by smell (and definitely taste)! Smell the earl grey tea bags, the royal English breakfast tea bags, and the large black iced tea bags. :)

Definitely gonna give those a try once I'm back, I haven't even tried any of our hot teas yet tbh so this is the perfect chance to. :)

So then (another question for ya, sorry), does your store use the black iced tea for the iced royal english breakfast latte? Personally, I try to steep the actual tea bags in hot water whenever I have a chance for both the tea lattes (mostly the mobile orders and cafe), but my sm gets upset when they get ordered through drive thru and the line gets halted for 5 extra minutes while we let it steep :/ that's why we're told to just use the black iced tea, I think.

I was trained to use the same amount of tea bags you would for the hot version, but half the hot water. Let steep for 5 minutes, pour over cup filled with ice, add vanilla, add milk.

I’d double check the Hub, but I’m pretty sure you use the 1-2-2 ratio of earl gray tea bag, steep it in a hot cup with the amount of hot water recommended on the pour over pitcher for ICED drinks. I believe it steps for 4 min (they made updated it) and then use that concentrate + milk + vanilla and shake it.

Do NOT use Black Iced tea unless requested by customer OR SM (because it is their store and they’re wrong they get in trouble.)

Double check the Hub for the recipe card you’ll get the standard information

THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER!

You steep the tea bags (in a hot cup for the size you need, HALF FULL/EMPTY) for 3 minutes for white and 5 minutes for black or green teas.

You use the tea shaker to finish the drink.

\-- Pour hot tea into shaker to proper tea line for size.

\-- Add selection of milk to proper line for size.

\-- Add ice for size, little extra since it was a hot drink

\-- Shake, shake, shake

\-- Pour into proper cup

And done.

PS - don't try a ICED honey citrus mint tea. it's not good

Is it even a real drink?
Kyenne_Pepper123 2 points 3y ago
I was told that you were supposed to steep a bag or earl gray in a cold cup but use just enough to cover the tea bags. Steep for 5min and when done fill with cold water to the middle line, fill 2% to the top line, add vanilla the finish with ice.

Tbh I always do something different every time I make it. Same with blended strawberry lemonade.
CoffeeChesirecat 3 points 3y ago
Is the strawberry lemonade just puree, lemonade, and ice blended? Dumb question but people rarely order them and idt I have ever had to make one.
DontSendMeUrNudes 3 points 3y ago
Don’t forget the cream frap base.
dahmerpalms 2 points 3y ago
Purée to the bottom ridge, lemonade to bottom line, and pumps of creme base. Ice, blend
the1noir 1 points 3y ago
If you’re asking me, then some days it’s pure with lemonade, other days it’s Strawberry refresher with lemonade blended.
dmm181 2 points 3y ago
I was told lemonade to the bottom line, purée to the middle, then pour in pitcher with ice and creme base

This is the correct recipe
