So first they tell us that we'll only be accepting mobile orders at our Cafe store reopening in a few days. Now they're saying that if a customer (Karen) wants to order at the front door instead of mobile and is persistent about it, we have to take the order. But we have to tell the customer that we can only take card. But if the customer wants to pay in cash and is persistent about that, we have to take the fucking cash? What the hell is this company!? They don't care. I'm sick of it. We're not human here.
[deleted]275 points3y ago
Starbucks: we have rules, they are serious and you need to follow them
Also starbucks: we will incinerate those rules the moment it slightly challenges the galling entitlement of our customers, but we'll also yell at you for not following them. also fuck you
heatherhalo31 points3y ago
It's call "make the moment right". Which in reality is bend all the rules for the customer who refuses to follow the rules. This is how our customer base has gotten so entitled.
hopelovepeace339 points3y ago
Yea and customers use that to buck the system all the time & its sooooo frustrating! That’s why at my store we have this lady who comes through & gets her drink remade at least 2 to 3 times because according to her it doesn’t “taste right” 🙄🤦🏻♀️🤬
Momisnotmyname6 points3y ago
We have a 1 remake policy at our store. Happy to give you a side of syrups or whips.
hopelovepeace335 points3y ago
Apparently not at ours because I’ve seen the same customer come through at least 3 or 4 times and have her drink remade & she’s literally the rudest b@$%!
Whagarble1 points3y ago
Ann?
jas0nd3an5 points3y ago
Amazing. Also. Captured.
adlct598 points3y ago
This is basically rewarding childish behavior. Get angry? Ok I'll bend down to your needs, want a free $4 gift card too?
kyle_shrewz27 points3y ago
i’ve made the point at my store that if someone came through the drive through and said they didn’t want to pay that we would end up giving it to them for free just to keep from getting a complaint.
adlct532 points3y ago
Working here and having to bend down to entitled and childish customers has made me realize, I have more of a back bone than I give myself credit for. It still amazes me how these people don't feel embarrassed or ashamed of their actions
scoot_the_poet50 points3y ago
I’m going back in for the first time in a month and a half tomorrow and I’m terrified. In addition to not remembering any fucking thing, I feel like I’m just gonna spend 4 hours getting yelled at
jas0nd3an11 points3y ago
Not only will you hear “you got this,” but “I appreciate you. Don’t worry. Just remember next time. Youll figure it out. Here’s the drink cards. Remember to smile for the customer and you’ll be okay.”
Kellooannc6 points3y ago
I'm so with you. I've been crazy anxious! I'll be taking an entire bottle of CBD.
ashproctor2 points3y ago
Me too but you’ve got this!
mastaofdeath0 points3y ago
Everyone’s first day back is just training. You can’t hop on the floor until your training is completed.
scoot_the_poet2 points3y ago
That’s not how it went today, I was back on the floor right away. Thankfully it went well! Our store was dead
dancing_durian41 points3y ago
Omg! Who told you guys that? I’ve been telling people that it’s MOP only and if they don’t have the app or know how to, I just give them the flier with the instructions on it. That’s horrible.
1b1rd2 points3y ago
That's what the big boss lady told us. So I can just cry 'manager said' and what can they do but download the app or admit they don't care enough about getting a drink here
my_name_is_in_use1232 points3y ago
Same I say sorry and send them on their way with how to download it XD if you need Starbucks that bad right now you should be willing to download a stupid app. We’re doing customers a freaking service by risking our health to serve them nonessential coffee. It’s like none of them have heard of making coffee yourself at home! Also it’s cheaper to make your own coffee at home 💁♀️😒
thisisnotlorena40 points3y ago
My SM had us start doing this and I feel it defeats the whole purpose of closing down cafe. These people aren’t respecting the 6feet worth of distance. I’m over it.
SteampoweredClock [OP]4 points3y ago
Yeah I work in a small town. Once one Karen realizes that we will give in, we'll have all the Karens berating us to get stuff.
universejuice557735 points3y ago
And this is why I finally decided to ditch the siren. Our store was a hot mess.
retsehassyla25 points3y ago
Your SM needs to recheck the rules. Cafe stores (I’m at one) were supposed to VOTE on if they wanted to take walk up orders or not because you have to consider all the risks with taking cards and cash.
It’s supposed to be a no exceptions rule (aside from first responders because they get free coffee and can’t do that in a mobile order) even for rude customers because at the end of the day, all this is to protect us and customers. Sorry your store doesn’t seem to have it under control, try reporting them to corporate. It’s usually a management issue, because I have been at a shit store before. Hope things get better for you.
tragicalyhappy4 points3y ago
Going back in today, this is useful info thank you.

kamiko_k963 points3y ago
Same here. I wish I could have taken that pay before I finally ditched this place. I still think about my old coworkers, and I can't help but feel bad for them.
rosallia9 points3y ago
What the fuck? I'm going back to work soon in New York and I know they're not expecting me to touch that customers dirty ass card that's been chilling in their boob sweat and who fucking knows if they've been riding the subways where 2 bodies have been found dead in 11 hours.
Unionize yall. Do not let this shit go. That same fucking fire we raised about not getting paid? And articles were written? We need to keep that energy. We need to keep pushing for more.
hopelovepeace33-3 points3y ago
You can always take a pack of the sanitizer wipes if you have to take a customers card.
indigod0g9 points3y ago
I just quit! Freedom feels good.
BFoley7279 points3y ago
Fucking SAME.
arialysa176 points3y ago
They need to close their doors again if they can’t enforce the no contact, I have had to handle people’s cash and coins and that is definitely going to spread corona around even more.
Critical505 points3y ago
I think every SM is different. Some are total kiss ass panzies, some will stand their ground.
I think Starbucks creates more of the ass kissing panzies because the SM isnt watching their money go down the drain. So, they prefer to just say just let it go.
My SM said that we'll tell people they have to install the app for next time but we will take care of them the first time. But next time, they will have to have the app. She said that if we have an older person who isnt "tech savvy" (is being able to search for an app in the app store really considered tech savvy??) then we'll just make it for them for free no worries. But we arent doing the same with a person who obviously knows how to search for an application on the app store and install it.
Which I honestly dont have an issue with. Ive tried to explain the simplest things to people over 50 with computers enough to make me not even want to bother with trying to explain they need to install an application to a 70+ year old person. I'd rather just make it for them and they get out of my ear.
SteampoweredClock [OP]3 points3y ago
I don't understand why it's so hard for older people to figure it out. It makes no sense. Though your store has a good system. I've heard that we were supposed to vote on taking door orders. Did you guys do that?
Critical503 points3y ago
Also, I think its just intimidating to them. Like to me, doing things like coding is beyond me. And now Im hearing that in some basic schools, they're offering coding classes to younger kids.
Critical503 points3y ago
Nope. SM just told us that we're a mobile/ubereats only store. My store doesnt have drive thru yet, we're moving to a store later that will give us one. But for rn, we're a cafe store.
We have someone though who will be doing hand off orders when the drinks are ready. Go to the door and call the name. Is that what you mean by taking door orders?
SteampoweredClock [OP]2 points3y ago
Like none mobile. Giving in and just taking the orders at the door instead of mobile
Critical503 points3y ago
Oooh. Yeah, no. We didnt get a vote.
SM just said that if its a younger person who obviously understands how to use a phone, we wont let them continuously get free drinks. They get one on the house, and after that nothing else.
hopelovepeace333 points3y ago
That’s bullshit & need to report that shit up the line because if it’s card or app only then there is no bending over backwards during a global pandemic to accommodate bratty ass Karen’s! We tell people all the time who try to come in to order stuff that they either have to order it through the app & pick it up or go through the drive thru. It’s like having to herd toddlers with them trying to walk into the store more then one person at a time & not respecting social distancing. Some lady even full on came into the store, walked past the tables that were blocking the doorway & just stood there, I looked at her & told her she needed to stand by the front door the tables are there for a reason because you can’t stand inside here.
NOTcreative-2 points3y ago
This is not accurate. Cafe stores are not taking cash or cards. It’s MOP pickup only. There are guides to give customers to download app or to order through it without registering. Some people are having trouble with it so guidance isn’t just give them the order and work it out for the next day.
SteampoweredClock [OP]3 points3y ago
My DM is an asshole then
NOTcreative-1 points3y ago
Not improbable. Sometimes the wrong person lands in the wrong spot. Takes time to correct.
shroomiedoo2 points3y ago
I’m just going to say no
jas0nd3an2 points3y ago
Seriously. Captured.

netocanessa0 points3y ago
Taking cash now too.
Pi314Luvr-9 points3y ago
Unfortunately it’s illegal to refuse cash, that’s why we can encourage customers to use plastic but we can’t force them to.
Grobanne201122 points3y ago
$1 according to this, it's legal to refuse paper notes in a private business. In the US, a business is considered private if it's not funded by taxpayer dollars or owned by the government.
Pi314Luvr17 points3y ago
I see, thanks for fact checking! I was repeating what our DM told us in our last shift call this Friday, but I should have done research before commenting.
Grobanne20116 points3y ago
It's alright! I'm surprised your DM didn't know this, or least looked it up.
blandrogyny1 points3y ago
i've used this whenever people try to pay with a hundred right at open and i didn't have the change 🤷
OriginalJokeGoesHere4 points3y ago
That's only true in certain cities that have banned cashless restaurants. Legal tender ≠ cannot refuse
_Pulltab_1 points3y ago
That link is literally from the Federal reserve.
OriginalJokeGoesHere1 points3y ago
Yes? I’m agreeing with that
_Pulltab_0 points3y ago
Sorry. I misunderstood your comment. I thought you were saying that the default was cash could NOT be refused, except in certain cities.
