Five Hour Training. Lmao I’m dead. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BFoley727
So I don’t know if y’all have had the mandatory training about people coming back from Cat Pay and all that but it was so damn corporate I literally laughed out loud.
The MEDITATION (first of all, LOL) bit about “picture a person in your life that you love unconditionally blah, blah, blah.” They get you really into it. I was thinking about my little sister. And then BAM. “Now think about a customer that you interact with.” Like, trying to transfer those intense feelings of love somehow to some rando. Lmao my eyes popped open and I couldn’t get back into it.
And then they talked about bias yet again but this time, very explicitly telling us to basically forgive anyone for being an asshole because we couldn’t possibly know what they’ve been through and we can’t 100% blame them without knowing them... okay... I understand that to an extent but everyone can control how they treat others. If I’m a bitch to some innocent barista, that’s fully on me and I would accept that.
How are you going to tell a barista how to deal with stress and rude customers? We shouldn’t turn to each other to lean on when we get screamed at because it’s rude to the customer? I mean, we’re just humans too and it seems like customers are allowed to forget that and we’re expected to let it roll off our backs like robots.
I shouldn’t have to accept bad behavior from these people. I assume the best in everyone but there are some things that you can’t just excuse. They’ll just keep doing it!
It’s just another example of the customer comes first. We’ve covered it time and time again and while there are some nice customers, there are also tons and tons of entitled ones.
I’m stressed out about all of this COVID shit and I’m stressed about having to deal with upset customers who look at me like I am the supreme representative of all that is Starbucks.
I feel like I should be allowed to stand up for myself or at the VERY LEAST chat to my partners about rude customers for some kind of relief.
My jaw just dropped open during that entire training. I find it laughable.
Sorry for the long post. I just had to rant.

TLDR Starbucks is doing their darnedest to force us to let customers get away with whatever they want because they’re the company’s golden children. Oh and we should view them the same as we view our closest family and friends. LMAO

I can’t with this. The gong sounds killed me!!! Just ask around what our feelings are and brainstorm ways you can help us. That’s productive. What’s not productive is sitting around for 5 hours looking at stick figures and taking ‘brain breaks’

It was the dumbest shit Ive sat through. I woke up at 8 AM to talk about feelings. Fuck off.

So they’re calling it “training” but what do you do the whole time? I have mine tomorrow and the day after. Do you just sit around a table the whole few hours while the manager shows shit on the laptop?

The first two hours are audio sections. The next three hours are your SM talking through expectations and facilitating discussion. It’s a lot of BS. Mostly to bridge the gap between people who have continued working and those coming back from taking Cat Pay. My store has been closed so that wasn’t an issue for me.

Everything from corporate is total BS. Not looking forward to it at all. Did yours do it all of it within 5 hours one day? Mine is split up in two day’s, 2 hours and then 3 hours. I took the cat pay soon after it was offered but my store closed a couple weeks ago since more coworkers took the leave so we didn’t have enough people to keep the store open.

Yeah we did it all in one day but there were two separate groups.
We got out a little earlier because we didn’t have to cover all the sections since we’re not DT, etc

It was all propaganda. "Serving our communities," "Wearing the green apron with pride," "Showing up for our first responders," "We're family, welcome home."

They offered up that guided meditation to manipulate us, make us docile, make us malleable.

with my group at my store we all talked over the whole thing, and my sm was the instigator haha

honestly im glad i didn't hear a word of the meditation, it would've made me so angry
