My manager has to tell people at 7 o’clock “hey due to Covid 19 our store now closes at 7 thanks for coming by bla bla bla bla” and they will pause for 2 seconds like “wait, y’all are closed??”

No haha jk go ahead and order hahahahahahhahahahaAHAHAHAHAHHA
ifthataintme [OP] 60 points 3y ago
i told 2 cars how we closed at 9 and they both responded like “but we waited in line” and i said “okay so what do you want then”....we have another shift who just says “sorry were closed” and just ignores any response😂😂
lemonjuicepulp 68 points 3y ago
Oh god never let them order when you guys are closed even if they give you a “weeeehhh I waited in liiiiine” cause that same person will tell other people if they just wait in like they’ll get to order anyways and it’ll just breed even more entitled Starbucks customers. Obviously I have no control over you but gotta be careful
ifthataintme [OP] 32 points 3y ago
you’re totally right! i’ve been cutting it off right at close lately but a few nights ago we had a line of like 10 cars and i just did my best with what i had. i didn’t want to bother going outside and the third car finally just left and didn’t bother us. i only took 2 cars after close and we were already ahead so it wasn’t too big of a deal. the entitlement of people is really showing during these times and i have no issue telling someone to kindly leave and come again tomorrow!
cheven20 8 points 3y ago
I usually tel people I can’t take any more orders because the system stops taking orders at whatever time we close
RegularFrappuccino 84 points 3y ago
Let them sit there. Morons. When we close we turn headsets off and don’t open the window
ifthataintme [OP] 39 points 3y ago
my favorite is when we’re still closing and they yell at us through the drive thru window🤪🤪 even though there’s 5 different yellow papers posted with our new hours
tinycherrypie 19 points 3y ago
Same. The store I worked at had to close early one night to deep clean, but for the first half hour or so we didn’t have any running water due to maintenance. From down the bar I can hear a weird noise, sounds like a person saying, “HELLOOOOOO???” I turn around and realize it’s the headset; turns out we forgot to put the cone up and someone just sat there in drive thru. So, my coworker picks the headset up and tells her we’re closed, we don’t have running water right now, but the lady gave us this lovely line, “You don’t need running water to give me a protein box!”

What part of closed do people not understand? Closed means no registers! She eventually sped off when we told her this.
ifthataintme [OP] 13 points 3y ago
OH MY GOD I HATE PEOPLE HAHAISIDJFISKSLA i’m so sorry you had to deal with this🤣 our mobiles have still been printing after we close(it’s fixed now) but we’d have angry people wanting their mobile that they sent through 20 minutes after closing and expecting to get it. we had a girl yell at me saying she mobiled so she wants her drinks. i just said i couldn’t hear her and that we were closed over and over and that i can’t open the window because....were closed.
crzyshiba 19 points 3y ago
Yup I do the same thing then they literally park at the damn window thinking we will help them savages
earthnibs 44 points 3y ago
That is exactly when you turn off the headsets and just don’t respond to them. They’ll figure it out.
ifthataintme [OP] 23 points 3y ago
we do! this was at 10:30 and we close at 9 and leave by 9:30🤣
thedeadwillwalk 30 points 3y ago
I went out in the line and cut it off last night. Don't be abused.
zlafrance 29 points 3y ago
My store has been closing at 3pm for the last several weeks because we were down to 10 partners and that’s all we could afford to staff. I’ve been going outside a few minutes before 3, letting anyone that arrives to the line before 3 get served and turning anyone else away that pulls up after. I stand there until the line gets down to a point where I can block the entrance to the drive thru with an A-frame sign that has our hours on it, then I go back inside and help them knock out the rest of the line before I do my cash management. There have been days where we’ve had 20 cars in our stack and I’ve had to turn away a dozen cars, but I think this is the best way to operate with customers at our core, while also not letting my partners be abused by keeping them an extra hour after they’re scheduled.

I’ve certainly had some try-hards attempt to convince me to let them into the line, but I don’t allow any exceptions and most people are very understanding and cool about it. I also make it a point to tell them where the next closest stores are that are open later.
ifthataintme [OP] 9 points 3y ago
thank you! i will have to do this when our line gets bad again. i was being told by my SM that we should hand out recovery cards to the cars we turn away which is a good idea to keep them from bitching but i don’t want them to come back😫 we close at 9 and i’ll be kindly asking them to leave and update them on our store hours🤗 i can’t even do cash until we get rid of all the customers so i’ve been trying to help push out drinks as fast as possible so we can all close on time and not feel rushed. i wish i was surprised that they tried convincing you to stay but i’m not, sadly. we’re the only store open that late before the next store 20 minutes away that closes at the same time. it’s just wild to me how many people NEED starbucks at 9pm
zlafrance 8 points 3y ago
Offering a recovery card isn’t a bad idea, as it would probably keep most people happy, but you’re also right. I would worry about people abusing that by showing up 5 min past closing just to get something for free. Anybody that pulls up after close I just say “hey I’m so sorry, but the store closes at (x)pm and this car right here is going to be our last one, as they were in line before (x)pm. Thank you so much for understanding.”

I’d say 60% of people just say “no problem” and drive off, 20% of people give me attitude, 20% of people try to convince me to let them get in line anyway, but I’ve stood my ground every time and they have no other choice but to accept the inevitable lol
ifthataintme [OP] 3 points 3y ago
thank you for your response! this will definitely help me on the nights we have issues. talking to customers face to face rather than through a screen really helps too. i hate having an argument over headset and then they get to the window to talk and realize that i’m still the same bitch over headset and they shrivel up and get nice once they see me in person😂
SkylerSayys 8 points 3y ago
Someone ran over our closed a frame not too long ago and we had to get a new one.
ifthataintme [OP] 6 points 3y ago
this is why i won’t put anything in ours.
Webers_Law 18 points 3y ago
We put out a sign when it’s exactly 6 so no other people can come through. We want to go home, not take orders after we’re closed. Of course, if there’s a line currently at 6 we’ll take note of the last car and do it that way.
TheYesExpress 13 points 3y ago
Last night I was taking out the trash after closing at 9pm and EVEN THOUGH the speaker said the usual closing statement, I had three cars from the drive-thru window ask me if we were still open...

1) The speaker just informed you this Starbucks is closed
2) No one is welcoming and asking for your order

Seems people can’t put two and two together lol
ifthataintme [OP] 7 points 3y ago
you guys have a closing statement??? what does it say? i want to ask my SM or just do it in a robot voice lmfao
i’m sorry you have to deal with customers like that too. that’s one of the reasons were not “allowed” to do trash runs at night(i do but whatever)
TheYesExpress 13 points 3y ago
“Thank you for your visit, but we are currently closed. Please come by again during our normal business hours.”

I seriously thought every Starbucks with a drive-thru has a automatic closing statement!
ifthataintme [OP] 7 points 3y ago
omfg no! i’ve worked at 3 stores and none of them had this and i feel so left out😤 brb going to turn into a robot the second we close from now on
TheYesExpress 5 points 3y ago
I can’t imagine NOT having it. I’m sure there’s a way to activate it in your store. Or maybe record yourself in that robotic voice you’re so excited to use and then play it at close lmao!
zlafrance 2 points 3y ago
You can turn that function on and off with the box that controls the headsets. I forget what it’s called. The same place they they turned on and off the handwashing reminder.
ifthataintme [OP] 13 points 3y ago
for everyone saying “take off your headsets”, we do! i’m the ssv and i have my baristas take them off the moment we close and i decide if we take a few extra cars after that....i only do it for 5 minutes or so and then i cut them off. we had been talking in the parking lot for an hour after close and witnessed 3 cars pull up and just each wait at the ordering screen so it was really funny and i thought i’d share😅😂 also we would try to block our drive thru if our local community weren’t idiots and drive over anything we put to block the drive lol
kait_lynb 12 points 3y ago
I would have just turned off the headsets and ignored them, closed and walked out. And if a customer was like “why isn’t anyone answering” I’d be like “we’re closed dude, you didn’t get the message when no answered? Or how about when my manager told you we’re closed”
ifthataintme [OP] 4 points 3y ago
it’s funny because we’ll close and still have cars come through the line as they’re watching us leave the store and go to the only 3 cars in the parking lot🤣 luckily we never have customers who ask if we’re closed outside but if we did, they’d just get ignored or a “yeah obviously”
raptoraptorr 9 points 3y ago
NOOOO THIS IS MY FAVORITE THING LMAOOOOO MAYBE SOMEONE WILL ANSWER IN ANOTHER 5 MINUTES KEEP TRYING GUYS
ifthataintme [OP] 2 points 3y ago
THEY REALLY STAYED FOR 5 MINUTES HAHAHAH the second car did too but the third car got the point and only waited 2 minutes but yes i love it too and me and my partner were cracking up in the car watching them😂
dalenakitty 8 points 3y ago
Sometimes when we get a line after close one of my coworkers pretends to be a robot and do a automated message 😂😂😂
ifthataintme [OP] 5 points 3y ago
okay wait i’ve never heard of having an automated message! this is genius and i’m going to have one of my baristas practice before we close tonight😂
dalenakitty 5 points 3y ago
I heard that there is actually a way to set it up a real autpmated message after close, but my baristas just love trying to pull off a fake one. The customers never question it 😂
ifthataintme [OP] 3 points 3y ago
someone else commented that they have it set up and now i have to figure this out because this is an issue before and after covid🙄 pretending to do it and practicing will be fun though until then😂
radical-monster 7 points 3y ago
We’ve been closing at 6 recently since rona, so We closed at 6pm yesterday, as opposed to our regular time of 8:30pm, and as my closers and I were walking to our cars, 4 cars went into the drive thru, and just sat there for like 10minutes. I was thinking to myself, just please go home...
ifthataintme [OP] 7 points 3y ago
right!? i could actually hear someone yelling from the white truck from my car but all i could make out was “are you going to take my order” and then they drove up to the window and waited there for a few minutes!! people are idiots
roserode 4 points 3y ago
Fr. Some girl was begging “PLEASE OPEN AGAIN. I NEED MY COFFEE!” then we had another girl say “y’all have to stay open until 9:30” (like we used to), and we told her we will be next week but due to covid-19, we close at 8:30 so she told us to fuck off , like no YOU fuck off lmaoo
ifthataintme [OP] 3 points 3y ago
all i want is to be able to say fuck off to a customer one day
roserode 3 points 3y ago
felt this.
spicypotatogurl 4 points 3y ago
Our store was closing at 8 (now we went back to our regular hours, closing at 11) and there was one night where we closed as usual and at 8:02 this woman came through, I told her we closed at 8 and she said "okay" and pulled away. Thought that'd be the end of it.

She pulls up to the window and makes the motion for me to open the window, I shake my head no. She keeps insisting, but still I don't open it. She gets frustrated and rolls her eyes. I'm reading her lips as she says all she needs is a bag of espresso, then continues to motion so I open the window. I remove my mask so she can read my lips and tell her we're closed. She keeps insisting, so I just walk away from the window and she pulls off like a bat out of hell.
ifthataintme [OP] 2 points 3y ago
ooooof i hate people so much. i never open the window and just continue to say “we’re closed” and if they insist on me opening the window i say “i can’t open the window, we close at *” and move on. the worst they’ll do is a bad yelp review or call sbux where they will just say they close at *.....or simply just avoid the window area or just plain ignore them. we’re closed and they will get the point eventually. i’m sorry you have to deal with that too
spicypotatogurl 4 points 3y ago
Yeah it was stupid of her, the entitlement of people, especially the area where my Starbucks is located ugh. It's a bunch of rich families basically. Not saying that all of them are like that, but for example we have one millionaire woman who always bitches at us it's just like... geez, I know I don't have money like you do, but I'm human just like you.
kobo15 3 points 3y ago
We started putting cones up in the drive through to stop people coming through
BreannaLyne 2 points 3y ago
When we used to do that pre CoVid19 when we closed early, and they would move the cones, pull forward then put them back, as if we didn't keep track.

And then we have some real special customers who would reverse into to drive thru and knock on the window.
kobo15 1 points 3y ago
Geez!! That’s a unique level of entitlement there
official_koda_ 3 points 3y ago
Idiots
Bcat-major 2 points 3y ago
Dude, we close at 7pm currently and when it is time to close someone will park car in the drive thru... sideways, backwards, etc. WHY CANT YALL READ THE SIGNS?
ifthataintme [OP] 2 points 3y ago
my sm suggested parking a car too to avoid people from pulling through😂😭 i like this idea more honestly though to avoid customers from sitting at the window and watch us close
Bcat-major 2 points 3y ago
Dude for real. But like also we had someone call at 7:05 and we decided to answer and the person just complained someone's car was in the way lmao 😭 like, bruh thats the point!
SoloArcana 1 points 3y ago
This is brilliant, and I'm going to shove my truck in my DT when we close if I have to. I'm hoping our A frame will be sufficient, but if not, they're not getting past my f150.
White_Petal534 2 points 3y ago
Lol I know this Starbucks! My best friend used to work at that location in HS!
ifthataintme [OP] 2 points 3y ago
then they know that it’s a black hole or worked there before it turned into one😂😂
White_Petal534 2 points 3y ago
Probably worked there before 😂😂 It didn’t seem bad while she was there
ifthataintme [OP] 2 points 3y ago
it’s really not. just a lot of turnover which makes it hard to keep consistent and we’ve had more managers at this store than years that it’s been open lol
IsaacStreeter 2 points 3y ago
While I was working at a different store while mine was closed, one of my regulars showed up and missed the cut off by 2 minutes, got sandwiched in by cars and was stuck in the line until it cleared out. He wasn’t mad but he recognized my voice and gave me a thumbs down. Hurt me man 😔
ifthataintme [OP] 3 points 3y ago
awh no😫 i’ve noticed that a lot of my usual favorites are no longer my favorite after this pandemic. a lot of them change when they’re forced to be drive thru only lol
dime_store_magic 0 points 3y ago
We put our a-Frame in drive so that people can’t come through and a “Karen” has the audacity to move it! She got to the window and let us know she moved it ‘cause she missed the cut off yesterday...
