Is Starbucks not going to pay for my ASU tuition? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tony-Tostar
I was accepted by ASU and was set up to go to school in the fall. Yesterday i was just asking some school questions with a success coach from ASU, and i had a financial one and he told me to ask the finance department from Starbucks about it. So i called the number he gave me and asked it to whoever picked up. But the person on the other end instead just told me that i need to fulfill another 240 or so hours at Starbucks by the 21st of next month in order to be eligible for my tuition to be payed for next fall. Basically the way they explained it was that i need to complete over 500 or so hours at Starbucks within a 6 month period, in this case from January 1st till June 21st in order to be eligible for school this fall. This didn't make sense to me because i've heard absolutely nowhere that i need to fullfil the amount of hours the 6 months prior to a semester, everywhere i look it just says, keep an average of 20 hours worked each week and I just assumed it would apply at the same time i'd be doing school. Though i don't work a solid 20 hours every week, i still feel as though I've worked a solid enough hours to qualify for the amount they mentioned. And I don't remember the exact number they said was necessary to be eligible, but i know it was above 500, which doesn't seem right if i did exactly 20 hours a week. Does anyone know any more about this? I cant pay the tuition myself and I can't work that many hours by next month.

TLDR:
I apparently have to fulfill hours the first half of the year rather then while im going to school to be eligible for tuition. Anyone know more about this?

You have to eligible for benefits to get the tuition paid for. If you’re not eligible for any benefits, as in you haven’t worked on average 20 hours before the audit periods, then tuition falls under the same category as health insurance and is only given to those who are eligible.

I graduated from the program though and I loved it.

Technically it is possible to fulfill that many hours by next month if it’s by the 21 you’ll be cutting it real close at 40 hours a week but it is possible def talk to your store manager

Right, I get that technically it's possible, but the reason why I can't do that is simply because I can't get that many hours a week bc everyone else needs to work too, i might have been able to get 20 hours a week if i pushed for that from January, but the fact that that's how it works and i wasn't made aware of that is what's frustrating me right now. So i guess I'm just doing a last resort ask in case there's another way around this that I didn't think of

Did you miss the initial benefits eligibility after your first 3 months as well or just this audit?
Tony-Tostar [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Not sure what this would be, was I supposed to be notified about something the first 3 months i started working?

So initial benefits eligibility for all partners is after working 3 months at 20 hrs/week average. You can track it on mysbuxben.com and you should get stuff in the mail and email once you become eligible. If you don’t enroll in benefits then, then you’re on track with everyone else and can do it after the audits when it’s open enrollment.

I do understand your frustration tho and I’m sorry :(
