Suspended? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by steezysalad
Anyone know how long a suspension lasts and is it paid? I had my vape out in the back while doing dishes and I wasn’t hitting it but my shift lead saw it in my hand and reported it back to my boss. I don’t know what to say to my family I screwed up I guess I need some barista support. My shifts treat me like shit I’ve been on window 5 hours a shift never getting bar time and I’m so over it. I love this job but Jesus

I’m wondering why the shift didn’t pull you to the side and have a talk with you instead of being an asshole lmao.

Right? What a dick! This shift straight up assumed OP was vaping in the back and just goes and reports it. I definitely would have just had a private conversation to OP about it.

Sorry this happened to you u/steezysalad. Hope everything works out. Best thing you can do at this point is have an honest conversation with your store manager when your suspension ends and that you won't let it happen again.

Damn, I've gotten caught vaping before a few times but luckily I've worked there long enough and most of my shifts are chill thankfully. I always make sure I have a juul on me cuz that's the most low-key way to not get caught, plus it's so small they probably won't notice it.

I've worked at Starbucks for 5 years and have never even heard of a suspension. I would just ask your manager or do some google searching on sbux suspensions for some peace of mind.

How new of a partner are you? I always see the newer partners being pushed into drive all day, it used to happen to me until I started saying something about it. I usually say "hey I've been on drive all day, you think I could get some bar practice or get a break from drive?" If asked nicely it usually works for me.

However, I understand shitty shifts who arent reasonable with their actions and seem that are just out to get you. I see it all too often at Starbucks and I'm pretty sure it's just the stress getting to them causing them to be dicks! It's too bad but the best thing you can do is be calm and as kind as you can and maybe they'll start being nice back! Or if all else fails you can always try moving to a new store, sbux is a great job but sour partners can make it a drag!

Thank you! I’ve been struggling so much with under appreciation and honestly straight up rude coworkers. I’ve been placed on window for 4 hours at a time during shifts and never bar anymore and it’s frustrating because it gives me crippling anxiety already and they say they don’t want to leave anyone planted anywhere too long which is totally bullshit

I FEEL you! It sucks.

I also deal with anxiety and drive-thru just makes it 10x worse. I see why you vape ;D putting CBD in my juice helps a bit with the nerves as well sometimes.

And it sucks seeing it happen time and time again to new baristas! Some new baristas are often treated poorly for some reason. If a newbie doesn't pick up on everything in ONE DAY they will start getting pissed at you because you aren't as good as a 5-year partner, and start treating you poorly and throw you in drive.

It happened to me, I didn't become good until my 2nd year or so... BUT trust this, if you stick in there long enough and try your best to excel in everything, it is likely that they will ease up on you. I've had people hate me for being slow but after I improved they were nice. It's all pretty fucked up, people will treat you differently over time as you get better, but that's just what I've learned observing partner interactions at work. And the worst part of it is, they keep you in drive and you'll never end up learning anything else that way. So just try to reason with them the best you can to get as much action on bar as possible!

A good tip if you need help excelling quickly on bar. Time yourself! If you have time.. and if they let you.. Try to make three hot drinks (or cold) and time yourself and try to improve each time. This helps with speed and stress (timer makes a stressor similar to an actual rush) so when an actual rush comes along you will crush it! If you do this you will quickly become thee fastest bar in your store!

And if all else fails, transfer to a new store! You'll be exposed to a big group of new people that might have a more positive effect on you. People prefer getting transfers because they already know what they are doing for the most part, so you will likely be entering a new store of people happy to have you!

Yeah I’ve asked every single day and I have been working there almost a year now, worked my butt off despite a lot of personal issues and they let me bar for 5 min before the same person comes on bar

On my first day training, they were charging theirs in the back and the manager was in😆 it really depends on the people you’re with so honestly I’d try looking for a store where you’re able to relate w the others bc that shift was pretty shitty for that

He says tomorrow I have a meeting with him and the GM to discuss disciplinary actions like what does that even mean, it’s VAPING. Like I lost so much respect for that shift and I can’t even work for awhile now when I need the money for bills especially right now.
BoominShroomer 1 points 3y ago
Damn. That is some bs, I feel for you. Well I guess the good news is that no one actually saw you vaping? Try telling them that you really need the money right now and maybe they will go easy on you. And maybe try saying something to further emphasize that you would never even think of hitting your vape in the store lolz. Maybe it was in your hand because you forgot to turn it off...? Somthing like that! If I was in your position I would just try to act as innocent as possible.
Good luck! Sending you good vibes for a successful meeting🙏🏽

I literally looked my shift in the eyes the other night and hit my vape
