Make sure it’s never hot and that the concentration is at the right level. It should always be cold or room temp and use the strips to test if the concentration is too high and needs to be diluted more

well said

oh dang, i always tried having warm sani. thanks for this!
CelestialMoonFlower2 points3y ago
Such awesome tips
CelestialMoonFlower2 points3y ago
Thank you for the advice. My hands are bleeding and on fire
SkylerSayys6 points3y ago
O'keefe's working hands lotion helped a lot when I had that issue
Mandalorian_Child4 points3y ago
Working Hands hand cream works wonders for the sani chemical burns. You can find it easily at Walmart and some Targets.

55-70 degrees. Should feel cool/room temperature
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
The weird thing is that it does
Mandalorian_Child2 points3y ago
You may just be experiencing an adverse reaction to it, but some people are truly allergic to it and can develop allergies over extended exposure as with anything. I would talk to your dr, definitely use lotion as frequently as you can, and you may be able to get a drs note that allows you to use gloves while using sani, pandemic or not.
CelestialMoonFlower3 points3y ago
I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist! Thank you!
Mandalorian_Child2 points3y ago
Awesome! We gotta splurge a bit when it comes to our hands and feet, wouldn't be able to work without them.
Mandalorian_Child4 points3y ago
After having burns on my hands like these for weeks on end, and talking to a few other food service workers, it boiled(hehe) down to the sani being too hot. No matter people's personal preferences the water HAS to be room temp. It was really hard to retrain the partners at my store to NOT use hot water, but it is in training/equipment manual to ONLY use room temp water.

I appreciate the feedback

Yes to the point where my hands cracked and bled. This happened at a gas station that I worked at too with a similar (if not the same) sanitizer as sbux
SteepSlope1233 points3y ago
Yup, before the quarantine it wrecked my hands especially after working long hours ☹️
CelestialMoonFlower3 points3y ago
Isnt it the worst? So so painful
SteepSlope1233 points3y ago
Yup and that redness ain’t fun either
giannafrancoxo3 points3y ago
I have this exact problem, specifically only on my right ring fever. I found that every time I went to work I would walk out and it would be worse and worse, more and more itchier and raw. I thought it was the restroom cleaner, I thought it was a food allergy or just eczema. It’s 100% the sani and the harsh chemicals that’s imbedded into the soaps and stuff. The temp of the water does play a huge part, the hotter it is, the worse it is, but def wear those big rubber gloves while wiping down counters and doing dishes. Depending on how bad it was, I’ve had like 3 band-aids, vinyl gloves, AND THEN rubber gloves just to wipe down counters some times. Although it’s tedious, it did help a lot not to have direct contact with those harsh chemicals. O’Keefe’s definitely is the best hand cream (and it’s unscented!! (: yay) also, if you can get some, sleep with your hand smothered in O’Keefes and then put 100% cotton gloves over it while you sleep. It helps a lot and keeps it super moisturized.
CelestialMoonFlower2 points3y ago
This is exactly my experience thanks so much for the helpful info. We can overcome this lol
SkylerSayys3 points3y ago
IT DOES THAT TO ME TOO THE SAME THING it took me W E E K S to figure out what it was
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
It's the worst 😥
coolcactus693 points3y ago
Maybe! I have a spot that looks like that on my wrist that just started a couple days ago (when I came back)
collinscreen2 points3y ago
For now, I would start soaking your hands in coconut oil, but do look into that soap if you can get it, and probably Try to wash your hands less at SBUX, or if you do have to wash at SBUX - use less soap, Ask to not do dishes, etc.
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
I'll definitely buy some online. Thank you! I didn't even know it existed
collinscreen2 points3y ago
I get the unscented body wash and use it for hand soap too. But anyway, yeah. That SBUX soap and sanitizer used to crack my hands too before I realized that the ingredients were the reason
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
It's such harsh stuff. I wish they would tweak it a bit
collinscreen2 points3y ago
But watch out for that ingredient in the soap you buy too if you can. There are other ingredients that aren’t good for your skin that are included in commercial soaps. I use the Alaffia brand at Whole Foods
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
Thank you for the suggestion. I'll try anything to stop my hands from hurting so badly
collinscreen2 points3y ago
The sanitizer is not good for the hands. Nor is the soap for the handwashing sink because of the commercial ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate. If you are vigorously washing your hands multiple times a shift, your hands will dry out, crack, and eventually bleed because these commercial soap/sanitizing ingredients strip your skin
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
It's a bummer for sure. They've done this the past 2 years I've worked there
_Pulltab_2 points3y ago
Ever since we came back this week. I was wondering if maybe they turned up the concentration mix. We test it every batch so I know it’s not overly strong. But I’m wondering if it wasn’t strong enough before (we didn’t use to test it I don’t think).
Anyway, my hands are trashed.
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
It's so painful. I feel you. Mine have done this before the break but it seems even more quick to blister now
CWO62 points3y ago
See if methylchloroisothiazolinone is in the products you are using on your hands. It is a preservative in many products, soaps, shampoos, cosmetics and household cleaners which aren’t even required to list ingredients(SMH) It causes a reaction like that on me. The ingredient is actually banned in Europe.
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
Wow I didnt even think of that thanks for the info!
CWO62 points3y ago
It took years, literally years to figure it out. My dermatologist kept dismissing it as eczema. My family is friends with an allergist and he gave me a T.R.U.E. test, a skin patch test that you wear for 3 days. It showed as a major allergy. Then I found the ingredient in almost everything I used. When I got rid of the products my skin got better. Good luck!
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
Oh wow that's crazy cause both my hands and face have been breaking out. Did products with that ever give you acne
CWO62 points3y ago
It gave me tiny little pus filled blisters that itched. Then those blisters would turn into horrible cracked, dry and sometimes bleeding skin. It was such a relief to learn if the allergy so I could read labels and eliminate it. The problem lies with home chemicals because there are no laws/requirements that they list ingredients! That’s when I have to research company websites for ingredients; what a pain!
tayragang2 points3y ago
Yep! Worked at Starbucks for 2 years and had to quit due to the hives I was getting from the sanitizer. Constantly washing my hands and doing dishes wrecked my hands and never truly recovered until I quit and fully stopped getting exposed to the sanitizer. Good lotion can only do so much and it might be something more than just a bad reaction. I was officially diagnosed with dyshidrotic eczema and it was the last straw to getting me to quit :( hope yours is different and it heals well!
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
Thanks for the well wishes. Yeah I'm the only partner who has it this bad. Its horribly painful and it's been cracking and bleeding which is bad with all the germs I'm trying to avoid
smellymelly19962 points3y ago
Not myself but I’ve know plenty of partners with skin conditions and sensitive skin that have this issue
CelestialMoonFlower2 points3y ago
Curse us sensitive skin people lol
smellymelly19962 points3y ago
😭😭😭😭 using eczema creams should help
JCaligirl4202 points3y ago
My hands have been bleeding and burning for 4 days now, ever since we opened back up!
CelestialMoonFlower1 points3y ago
It's really bad. I feel you. It's so painful. My hands are currently wrapped in bandages
