Former barista: Has anyone had success making nitro at home? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I love nitro. But I can’t afford a $6 drink regularly. I think if I could recreate it at home I would save money in the long run. I’m looking for a way to make it at home and willing to spend about $200? There’s plenty of options online but I wanted to poll the real fanatics to see if anyone had a particular brand or method they liked. TIA!

I use my sodastream (pretty cheap at walmart) to carbonate some water very lightly, then I steep it to my liking with French press grind in the sodastream bottle! Not quite the same or as foamy, but it’s as close a dupe as I can figure out.

You can make CB and then add it to a whipped cream canister to get it to foam like the nitro.
