Dude I've been in the cult...err company...for almost a year. I just cleaned an oven for the first time two days ago. No idea what I was doing. It be like that.

2 months is nothing. Everyone is on edge rn bc of Covid. Don’t take it personally. I’m a 5 year shift and I went back to work for the first time in 3 months. Forgot what I was doing. Felt so stupid.

Lol of course you don’t k ow what you’re doing. You’re a two month old green bean. You can work for starbucks for years and still not know everything or forget simple things like how many pumps go into making whip.
I would speak to your SM if you feel like you are being targeted or singled out for being inexperienced. All of us have made mistakes and do stupid things.
I’ve been at the bux for three years and the other day I tried to make refresher in the shaker without the lid. It exploded all over me, I was sticky and disgusting for the rest of the day.

You are doing fine.... just keep pushing forward! Everyone makes mistakes. You are not stupid and this is a hard job with lots to remember. Just keep trying and it will click eventually.

Dude I was a total hot mess for the first 5 months. Even now at 10 months, I make simple mistakes (forgetting drink recipes, never making iced coffee, not sure how to ring up a drink, etc.). Like others have said, if you feel singled out then talk to your sm, dm, or a supervisor because that’s completely unacceptable. Everyone starts out horribly because it’s kind of a tough job with how much you have to remember. Don’t beat yourself up👌

Give yourself time to learn, practice, and make mistakes. We all make mistakes, forget things, or simply have difficult/bad days, no matter how long we've worked for the company. It doesn't mean you're stupid! Your co workers need to be patient and have some empathy (for starters) I know it's a rough time right now for all of us, but that's no excuse to make someone feel alone or down.
I'm so sorry that no one comforted you or supported you when you got upset. If you were at my store I would've! Hang in there. Sending hugs of encouragement from afar...

this could have been written by me 6 months ago. i felt the exact same way, i was horrible and slow at my job, i messed up everything, would cry in my car during breaks because all the other baristas and shifts would be so cruel, and my manager called me into his office at the start of my shift one day to tell me that he has gotten complaints even from DMs. it was hell! but it gets better!! the learning curve is INSANE and once you get there (or once they get another new partner that’s brand new and clueless and doesn’t know anything at all yet) nobody will be care about your mistakes much more.
i was called into my bosses office at the start of my shift a month ago and nearly passed out in panic thinking it was going to happen again, but he sat me down to tell me that he was proud of me, im a great partner and he wants me to work more hours. two days ago in front of a bunch of other baristas at retraining she said that he’s proud of me because he used to get DMs come in and say they didn’t get why he hired me, but now DMs come in and even customers tell him how “awesome” i am. i nearly cried.
it DOES get better!!! i promise!!! we’re glad to have you on the team here on this forum :)))

I started back in November , I know how you feel , stick to what you know and ask questions when you don’t. But above all don’t worry about it , try your best and don’t get hung up on mistakes , that’s just you learning , pretty soon you’ll be killing it anywhere they put you

BRO. Wow that’s incredible
nutpuncher322 points3y ago
It’s funny I was just telling my coworkers today the same thing about when I started because for some reason I couldn’t do anything right I was either too slow or messed something up and it annoyed one of my shifts so much that he would move me so that he didn’t have to deal with my mistakes and it got to me and all I did for a while was cry and tell myself I should quit because I’m so fucking useless but it’s literally just took me not giving a fuck about what they thought and just tried my best and praising myself and giving myself small victories until everything became second nature and everyone became friends and when new people start I comfort their mistakes because I know what it’s like stay positive friend!

no, you’re not stupid. it already takes about 3 months to get a grasp on everything and stress levels are even higher with COVID. don’t give up, you got this!!
cfuqua2 points3y ago
i guess this is how people coined the phrase "don't be afraid to ask questions"
because it really seems like you are afraid
Liviology2 points3y ago
I would let the store manager know you feel this way. Let them know you feel you need more training and they should put you with a shift. I’m a shift and a trainer and I’ve been in that position myself. I get it, but you are doing great if you are really trying!!
bugzyys1 points3y ago
I know I’m a stranger but I’d love to talk to you if you’d even just want to rant a little bit, feel free to dm me! I could give ya some cheats to memorize all the drinks too!
