I wanna hear all your mobile-order-and-delivery-ONLY-customer-getting-angry stories :’( (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 275bruhista
Today I had a guy verbally abuse me for 5 minutes straight cause he couldn’t place an order in the store. A grown man much much taller than me was towering over me and screaming curse words in my face. I did everything I could to try and mitigate but he wasn’t having any of it. It sucked a lot.

I’m just especially scared right now that things might turn physical. There was a shooting at a McDonalds in Oklahoma because the employees wouldn’t let a guy sit in the dining room. Two baristas (not sbux) got pepper sprayed today because they wouldn’t let a customer inside to order (for their own safety).

Things are really awful right now. I want this to be a space to rant and to know that you’re not alone in this. We’re all experiencing some level of frustration at the moment. We all understand you here 💚 #stronglikecoffee

people have been mobile ordering before they get in the 30 minute line and then bitching to me at the window when their food is cold or the ice in their drinks is a bit melted 🙄🙄 like bro if you just ordered at the speaker like a normal person you'd be fine
Dsgrcfl 11 points 3y ago
The worst part is when they get pissed bc we’re making their shit when they get to the speaker so it doesn’t get gross. Sorry you have to wait an extra 2 minutes in order to not get shit products during a pandemic.

Ugh that’s the worst. I don’t work at a drive thru store so I don’t have to deal with that but I could only imagine.
lizeken 16 points 3y ago
I thought the guy adding 6 Frappuccinos at the window was bad enough. I can’t even fathom shooting or pepper spraying a food service worker
275bruhista [OP] 6 points 3y ago
It’s seriously getting crazy out there :(
starktongued 13 points 3y ago
I’m so sorry that this happened to you!!! There is absolutely no excuse for someone to get in your face like that over something so trivial. Sometimes I feel like customers forget that baristas are people too. Know that this absolutely was not your fault and that you don’t deserve to be treated as subhuman just because some bitchy entitled customer didn’t get exactly what they wanted. Chin up and take care yourself friend :)
275bruhista [OP] 6 points 3y ago
I totally agree. I feel like they assume we’re freakin robots or something who don’t have feelings. It definitely sucked but I didn’t take it to personally. I think he was just having a bad day and wanted to take it out on an easy target.

The sbucks I worked at didn’t even have a mobile order option. a couple came in and asked for their drinks. I told them we didn’t do mobile orders so they came to the wrong sbucks. And they got super rude and were like well it took our money so you have to give us our drinks! and I was like nah you have to go to the sbucks you ordered them from. there was screaming and slamming of hands on the counter. then I lost my cool and told them to grow the fuck up and get the fuck out 😅

Are you at a licensed store? I haven’t heard of corporate stores without mobile orders.
YellowSphinx 3 points 3y ago
It was a licensed store. Low priority. So getting supplies that we needed was constantly a pain in the ass. I wasn’t going to waste it on people who can’t follow a map. 🤷‍♀️
MercurialMuskrat 1 points 3y ago
That makes sense. I wish customers understood that licensed and corporate cafes have different rules even though we make the same drinks and have the same branding. It would spare all of us from many Karen tantrums.
YellowSphinx 2 points 3y ago
I would often tell them. at my Starbucks I couldn’t do no ice. it had to be light ice. and we didn’t give out trenta iced waters either. but even with all the shenanigans my regular customers loved me for some reason. I had a short fuse and they all knew it. they’d come in to see me anyway. 🤷‍♀️
275bruhista [OP] 3 points 3y ago
Wowwww geeez. At my store we usually just make the drinks for people who come to the wrong store but I understand that your store is different. It’s annoying when people think their own mistake is yours and they blame it on you. Seriously they need to learn how to act like adults.
lizeken 4 points 3y ago
Don’t you know? Starbucks rewards entitled behavior. If customers act like spoiled children then you HAVE TO cater to their wishes

I enjoy going to Starbucks even though I have an ethnic Indian name, but baristas have been exceptionally nice to me at some times. Other times they're normal. Last thing I would do is get mad at a barista. They might make mistakes, big deal. I'm usually nice and ask for a fix, and the baristas fix it quick.
275bruhista [OP] 7 points 3y ago
That’s why you’re an awesome customer! We appreciate people like you who are so understanding :) it makes the job a million times easier.
lizeken 1 points 3y ago
I wish every customer was like you! We make mistakes all the time and are a happy to fix it. Customers attitudes can make your day :)

My favourite was a woman who walked up, no greeting, and said “I HATE THAT YOURE FORCING ME TO USE THIS APP”

Which I’ll be honest I thought that shit was hilarious. Sorry to all of you who have had worse experiences :(
275bruhista [OP] 2 points 3y ago
Lol geez. It is funny but I feel like that would really be off putting in the moment. My boyfriend gave me some advice and said that people will show less anger toward you if you just pretend to agree with them. So in that situation I would’ve been like “YEAH ITS STUPID I KNOW RIGHT! I WISH I WAS ALLOWED TO LET YOU IN SO I COULD TAKE YOUR ORDER!” But in reality you know that it’s because of safety because of covid.
resentnothing 5 points 3y ago
this mouth breather the other day couldn't get his app to work, and insisted we should just close the whole store down because he couldn't mobile order. when i explained that it must be an issue on his end because others are able to mobile order, he still could not comprehend the issue was on his end and that we're not tech support.
275bruhista [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Ughh the worst! Haha it’s so frustrating when people literally just cannot grasp things like that.
jackblue2009 5 points 3y ago
Oh shit, it’s the stories of shootings that occurs inside restaurants and coffee shops that really freaks me out. Thank The God almighty we don’t have legal and/or any guns inside our country over here. Keep safe and avoid troubles 👍
perfecktenschlog 5 points 3y ago
my manager explained it to me like this : during this pandemic it seems crazy that coffee is the most important thing in these peoples lives, but everything is out of control right now. so if their coffee order is the only thing they have control over then they’re gonna do whatever they can to make things right. and they are gonna treat us like shit bc they can. not that it’s an excuse by any means, and if they’re coming to US for a service and then bitch at us for whatever they want.
275bruhista [OP] 2 points 3y ago
Yeah that really makes a lot of sense and I’ve heard the same thing. They just need to feel in control in some sort of way.
cilantroprince 4 points 3y ago
a gave a woman one of those card flyer things that show you how to mobile order because she could not understand that no matter how loud she talked over me it didn’t mean i could take her order up front. i was handing it to her to show her and she grabbed it and chucked it at me pretty hard :/ i dodged it but i needed to take a break in the back to calm down and didn’t want to be at hand off anymore haha

also many men yelling and demanding the manager
275bruhista [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Wow I can’t believe she threw it at you :( I would’ve done the same thing by sitting in the back and calming down. That sucks a lot. Yeah so many grown men are doing the same at my store too. It’s a good thing they have business cards I could just hand off.
scarcelypolite 3 points 3y ago
i havent had a lot of people verbally berate us, im so sorry that happened to you. most people just huff if their mobile isnt ready when they try to come by and storm out when they want a refund but we cant give it to them unless they go through the DT. hang in their pal!!
275bruhista [OP] 1 points 3y ago
I’m glad it hasn’t happened to you!! 💚 and you hang in there tooo :)

this isn’t a mobile order/delivery store but on easter we had the cops called to our store cause of a customer. this customer has treated us horrible on multiple occasions and it sucked. he also complained even though we made his drink right always. i’ve also had food thrown at me cause i told a lady we can’t put cream cheese on her food. i get upset super easily sometimes and easter was just horrible for me.
275bruhista [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Aww that’s seriously awful I’m so sorry :( Especially the fact that all this happened on Easter. Also I don’t blame you cause I get upset really easily too. No shame in that.
