Hmmm...It’s almost like for the best customer/partner experience these stores shouldn’t be opened yet...
cilantroprince9 points3y ago
can’t argue that
Panik9636 points3y ago
Sorry you got shit thrown at you. That’s unacceptable.
Panik9631 points3y ago
99? Just need one more internet point
oreooocake38 points3y ago
These people are so entitled it’s ridiculous!! I’m sorry that happened to you!
helgathehorriblez33 points3y ago
The doors shouldn’t be propped open it’s a health department violation.
allkondsoftoast7 points3y ago
Yeah we took three tables and made a half circle around the door so we can get in and out, keep the doors closed, and at least slows down the customers before they just walk in!
ptvsupernatural20 points3y ago
that’s horrible
smaidit17 points3y ago
our store is also MOP only and we had a guy come in demanding 2 bags of coffee. when we explained to him that he had to mobile order it he said “i walked all this way here and you can’t just serve it to me?” they really try to guilt us into just giving them what they want.... oh yeah and he wasn’t wearing a mask :/
cilantroprince3 points3y ago
yeah i got the same thing! the “i walked all the way here just give me a cup of damn coffee”. asked to speak to the manager like a full on karen 🙄 no mask either, what’s with people!!!
Grobanne201117 points3y ago
She threw one of those paper cards at you?
cilantroprince6 points3y ago
yeah, the one that gives you the steps to ordering online
vicsnapshot113 points3y ago
A shift was telling me how a lady told her that she doesn’t “care about public health” after the shift explained to her why we are MOP only
cilantroprince11 points3y ago
we need to have the right to refuse service in these situations!
AmonOdin8 points3y ago
My DM told us we do have the right to refuse service in those situations
cilantroprince2 points3y ago
that’s so nice

According to corporate- so long as you do it appropriately you totally do. You have a righty- according to corporate- to work in a safe environment. (I worked at a store that had a, “transient” problem. It was very hard- lots of mental illness, drug usage; and is hurting because we want to help these people we’ve gotten to know and then be afraid because these people need help.
Anyways- I learned very quickly that STARBUCKS has a responsibility to protect both customers AND PARTNERS. If you genuinely feel unsafe, definitely report to SM or DM. But if you have those leaders that don’t care because “Karen wants her mocha” then call corporate. Report everything, and mention that you’ve tried talking to leadership and have only been turned away and give any insight to what they’ve told you, like “deal with it- next time just get them out.” Etc.
I’ve sadly had to make reports and defend my calls before when leadership hasn’t done their job. I’ve been physically threatened at work but customers- I’m talking I had to hide in BOH because someone was gonna try to attack me, and call 911. Calling and using the right verbiage gets attention.
LKP952 points3y ago
Yikes!
my_name_is_in_use12310 points3y ago
I had a mark(my now male version of a Karen) try and order at the door and when I told him we can’t take orders at the door and are only taking mobile orders for the safety of other customers and mainly our partners he began to exclaim that this is a “crime” and “criminal offense” and then stormed back to his car. 😊
cilantroprince4 points3y ago
we LOVE male Karens! and he’s right, what we’re we thinking
throwawaybaristaxo2 points3y ago
Lmao I would have laughed in his face
sandycat5558 points3y ago
"You can get a black coffee but only if you pay cash... yup put it right there, that box marked tips..."
cilantroprince2 points3y ago
HA
implicates_7 points3y ago
thats so mean:((
lewabwee6 points3y ago
My sm basically told me that because it's Starbucks I should just expect to have to take people's orders at the front counter anyways.
cilantroprince6 points3y ago
??? customer preference/convenience should not come before our safety, starbucks or not! i’m so sorry your sm doesn’t take your guys’ health seriously :(
lewabwee2 points3y ago
Yeah it’s dumb but I know it isn’t her. It’s her boss. I can’t blame her for wanting to keep her job.
silversungoddess2 points3y ago
We were told to make the moment right and take orders if they couldn’t or refused to download the app and now we’re doing carry out again starting tomorrow
drubhub5 points3y ago
We had what seemed to be a Karen enter my store the other day and tell us that she only wanted a gift card. Thankfully my SM put her foot down and told her we can not sell anything inside and she must use the drive thru.
MatchingColors5 points3y ago
Huh, we just keep our doors locked
Ziaheart1 points3y ago
Do you do curb-side pickup? I understand some stores do that and it might be annoying to keep lock/unlocking the door constantly.
silversungoddess1 points3y ago
If someone called our store and asked us to take it out cause they had kids or whatever then we would do curbside.
Ziaheart1 points3y ago
Interesting! So you only do drive-through, eh?
silversungoddess0 points3y ago
We’re a cafe store
BluePoo4U4 points3y ago
This sounds just like my store, but management told us to "make the moment right" and to accept cash/cards if the customer asks
cilantroprince5 points3y ago
our tills and POS machines were shut down so even if we wanted to we couldn’t help her by letting her pay up front
BluePoo4U5 points3y ago
That sounds far safer than what we’re doing
RegularFrappuccino4 points3y ago
Well screw them. I think the states need to start policing these pathetic stay at home orders.
amorbaleine2 points3y ago
Our store is allowing people to purchase things of they push it.

Honestly? They sound like they’re older and may not be technologically adapted to knowing how to download and order off an app and it sounds to me like you shamed them. Your last example, you just handed the lady the piece of paper with instructions and you stated all it took was help from a Good Samaritan to get the app downloaded for them. I’m imagining after talking to you they felt stupid and shamed which is why you got those reactions.
We have moved our card payment terminal and scanner to where the customer can access them to pay with card or scan their app. If there is any customer who in the moment wants coffee but not the hassle of downloading an app at the moment we just give them their drink on us, they come back the next day with app downloaded and pay for their drink the day before more often than not. We’re still accepting credit cards and cash, just like the DT stores have been this whole time, under modified policies to ensure partner and customer safety.
ksesh1237 points3y ago
If you actually read the post, OP was trying to explain to the woman how to download the app to order her drink, when she wouldn’t listen, she tried handing her the card, still while trying to explain it to her. Are you really trying to excuse a customer throwing something at OP? Get outta here. Just because your store is accepting cards still doesn’t mean everyone else is.
whatismineisyours20 points3y ago
I mean they should feel stupid and shamed, we are in the middle of a pandemic and think things should be running as normal.
mykotman12-7 points3y ago
Nobody should be shamed. That’s fucked up.
NOTcreative--17 points3y ago
No they should be helped and recognized as human beings also suffering. It’s called empathy. I’m sorry you and at least 23 others don’t have it
whatismineisyours20 points3y ago
What about us then? Why aren't they showing any for us?
perfecktenschlog8 points3y ago
if they want coffee that bad, they can make it at home. they don’t get to come and treat baristas like shit bc they feel entitled during a fucking pandemic.
cilantroprince3 points3y ago
nothing i was doing lacked empathy, i’m not sure how you perceived it that way. i tried my absolute best to help her in any way i possibly could. (we can’t take orders at the door even if we tried to, our cash tills are empty and our POS screen is shut down, there isn’t anything i could have done about that, it’s beyond my and our other partner’s control). there was only one person here that didn’t have empathy for someone that is “suffering” with this pandemic. and the difference is that one person wanted a mocha at her own personal convenience, and the other person needed be there to pay rent and afford food to survive (and would like to being treated like a human and not just an outlet for people’s anger).
cilantroprince5 points3y ago
you assume i shamed them when you weren’t even there? i tried my absolute best to help her with an encouraging and empathetic smile, apologized over and over for the inconvenience our policies have had on her, and offered her the how to step guide and she didn’t seem to understand it when it was coming through my mouth and i still tried to help her.
also just because your store works one way doesn’t mean it’s the only right way to operate. we can together as partners at my store to decide that having mobile order only made us feel the safest, and our safety is way more important than customer convenience, no matter what your opinion on the matter is
RegularFrappuccino5 points3y ago
Too damn bad for karen. Don’t get starbucks than. She is an entitled bitch whether old or not
wandering_mind_3 points3y ago
Honestly? It does not take too much effort for customers to communicate they need assistance in ordering through the app. The situations listed above were instances of people just not being considerate of changes. Why would that be other people’s fault that certain individuals aren’t willing to adjust to changes? Don’t use this as an opportunity to coach people, sometimes people just need to rant. OP was not malicious, but felt frustrated dealing with customers who would not work with OP so they could help out those customers.
