Service Pay Petition (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sirfoo108
Hey fellow partners, if you feel underpaid as a Starbucks partner now is the time to stand up with everything going on with COVID-19. The service pay being offered by Starbucks is over in the USA after May 31st and we will continue to go back to not making a living wage while being overworked due to increasing pressure from upper management and labor cuts. Now is the time stand up by signing a petition going around that insists that Starbucks permanently keep our $3/hour raise for all hourly partners so we can finally earn a living wage for the hard work we put into our stores and communities every time. It's already got over 16,000 signatures. Share this petition with everyone you know!

I'm more concerned about continued cat pay. Right now they're supplementing our lost hours with normal pay, but if that goes away and hours are still low I'll have to leave. I can't live off of 20 hours per week.

What they said! This is not a niche skill based occupation. You will be fired, you will be replaced, and nothing will change. I'm an 8 year partner, trust me. Try taking advantage of all the extras they offer! I insure my daughter and myself for extremely cheap, I attend a university for free, and I get to work the hours I need.

We deserve to get paid better for the amount of hard work and devotion we put into our stores. Maybe you’re okay with the basically bare minimum pay rate, compared to the BILLIONS of dollars that Starbucks makes a year. But there are some of us who actually want to be able to provide for our families. So please, stop being negative and making something that we’re fighting for to make ALL of our lives better more difficult than it already is. It’s so sad that you wouldn’t be pushing for better pay ESPECIALLY if you have a daughter.

I'm the one being negative? I'm being realistic. I'm being an adult that actually understands how the world and end stage capitalism works. Appealing to Sbux will do nothing. Talk to your lawmakers if you want more money.

Nothing they said sounded negative 🤔

Right?!?!?

I think you missed the point. It’s a min wage job for a reason. The reason being: it’s a job that requires no education, no experience, and no skill to be hired. That’s what min wage job is. And Starbucks barista falls in that category. Being a barista at Starbucks is not meant to be a permanent job. Its bit a crest job. It’s a “first job” or “a second job” or “let me work here while I better my skills and resume so I can get a career job”. If you want to make more money you gotta move up within the company or find another job that pays more than min wage. Starbucks offers a lot more than any other min wage job. You can use Starbucks to get free education so you can get a career job and make a lot more money.

I think YOU missed the point. We are working Americans who deserve a higher wage. I have moved up with the company and over the years have seen how much heart and devotion partners will put into this job, baristas and managers alike. This job is seen as a minimum wage job when it is so much more than that, ESPECIALLY when you start stepping into management positions. So please, stop feeding into the stigma that we should be treated and payed like lower class citizens.
mykotman12 -2 points 3y ago
You if you want higher wages, you need to fight the government to increase wages, not Starbucks.
Starbucks will always be min wage job because it is. It’s a job that require no education, no experience, and no skill. That’s why it’s a min wage job. No matter how many petitions you sign, that will never change.
Of course everybody wants higher wages. And I think that everybody should be getting more. But Starbucks is not the problem. They will Walters pay baristas min wage, whether is 10 an hour or 25 an hour. You should fight to increase min wage in your state.
miniinovaa 3 points 3y ago
Yeah Starbucks is a minimum wage job but wasn’t minimum wage created so a family can live off of one income? Cuz I can barely afford my $900 room in my apartment lol
mykotman12 0 points 3y ago
Sure, but Starbucks is not in charge of min wage. Your state is. If you want higher wage, you gotta take it to the government.
miniinovaa 2 points 3y ago
Starbucks doesn’t have to pay minimum wage. They can have morals and pay livable wages lol.
mykotman12 0 points 3y ago
The more skills you have, the better you get paid. Why do you think doctors get paid so much? Or engineers? Or even management? Because they have skills/education/experience to deserve a higher wage.
miniinovaa 4 points 3y ago
Well then they can’t be demanding us to make a Starbucks high quality experience. If we are getting paid fast food wages, the customers get fast food service. It’s ridiculous we are literally *expected * to remember customers, make a connection with every single one all the while getting everything out the window in 40 seconds.

You get what you pay for and Starbucks does not pay us enough to create a customized experience for every customer.

And also who’s to say who deserves a living wage? Minimum wage young adults are on the front lines right now, we are considered necessary and it is necessary for me to live as well.

Starbucks doesn’t have to pay anything more than a min wage either if they don’t want to. Min wage job pays min wage and barista is a min wage job.
miniinovaa 3 points 3y ago
...and we are asking them to pay more? Lmao what’s your point. Yeah they don’t have to, we are asking them to. And besides you can demand to ease minimum wage from your job and the government.
thelemon67 3 points 3y ago
They dont need you, they will fire you. Besides the point, a coworker and I did the math and if you use all the benefits, its $6 extra dollars and hour. Take your base pay, add 6 and thats about what you are truly making. That doesnt even include asu online or lyra. You may think you are valuable but there are hundreds of people waiting in line to take your place when the company gets rid of you.
caashmoney 7 points 3y ago
The fact that you don’t think that you’re valuable is sad. We all deserve to get paid better and if you don’t agree with that then you clearly aren’t putting the level of devotion and dedication that some of us are putting in.
thelemon67 1 points 3y ago
You have me all wrong here. I put a lot forth to the company, but they compensate us well. Name one other fast food job that has base pay well above minimum wage and gives us all the benefits they do? My point is that to a large company, your name means nothing so don't take the job for granted and dont put your job on the line because when the rubber meets the road, they will fire you without question and hire someone else who appreciates what they are giving

i’m actually impressed by that math! bc i’m with you on this one. they give you these benefits and they’re beyond helpful, even tho i don’t use most of them bc i’m a college kid with parents who have me covered on them through their jobs. i recognize that those extra dollars an hour get poured into the benefits instead of us getting those extra dollars and spending them otherwise. this is a great way to look at the issue, thank you!
miniinovaa 1 points 3y ago
I wish there was an option to opt out of some benefits and take extra pay
Halesvs 2 points 3y ago
My local Starbucks pays way above minimum wage where I’m from, but also I feel like this is a government based issue.
mykotman12 2 points 3y ago
So these petitions even work? Does a company ever see the petition and does anything about it? Where do these petition go? Does somebody send it to corporate? And what do you think is gonna happen when corporate sees it? I’m actually very curious about it. I see people start and share petitions all the time, but does anything ever changes because of them?
miniinovaa 2 points 3y ago
A petition got cat pay extended
mykotman12 0 points 3y ago
Are you sure about that?
miniinovaa 3 points 3y ago
Well there was a petition made, it got a bunch of signatures (I think at least 15,000) and catastrophe was extended.
mykotman12 2 points 3y ago
I’m sure it had nothing to do with states extending stay at home orders and the pandemic and everything to do with some online petition.
My main job told us to stay home till June 1st with pay when my state extended the stay at home order. Not a single employee signed any petitions for that.
