Do you guys just put the chai with milk or do you do half water half chai.
ilovebrandonj66 points3y ago
for a chai tea latte if it’s hot then it’s chai then a bit of hot water and then the rest milk. if it’s an iced chai tea latte then it’s chai and milk only. if it’s a brewed chai tea then it’s teabags and hot water unless you order a brewed chai tea latte

Anyone ever try putting hot water in with the milk before steaming it?
It steams faster since it’s already warmer and feels more simple to me. But it’s for sure not standard. Just curious if anyone els does it too!
submitizenkane22 points3y ago
Don’t do this. Milk doesn’t aerate well above 100 degrees and if you are adding hot water to cold milk then you are shortening the period of time that the milk can properly develop its texture.

Thanks for the information👍🏽 I’ve wondered if it was the wrong thing to do and now I know!

I make it to recipe (chai pumps, hot water, then steamed milk) unless it says no water. It tastes better with no water but I dont want to make it different without the specification in case they go to a different bux and complain there that it tastes watery. If it's a regular and I like them, I'll ask if they wanna try with no water, but aside from that, I try to stick to the recipe whenever I can.
Also, I dont wanna be the "other starbucks"
You know the one. WeLl ThE oThEr StArBuCkS mAkEs It ThAt WaY!

I wish those people would realize that the "other starbucks" just wants them to hurry up and get out of the store without a fuss by offering little to no resistance in what they want

I meant half milk haha
datbootyphat18 points3y ago
I think we all knew what you meant.. it’s been a long couple of months. LOL
Tyedyeee4 points3y ago
Like 1/2 chai and 1/2 water sounds pretty good? Lol.

"Do you guys follow the recipe when you make drinks or do y'all just wing it?"
ohthatjoe9 points3y ago
For hot Chai, you're supposed to pour milk to the line lower than the size your making in the milk pitcher. So for a venti hot Chai, you pour milk in the pitcher to the grande size.
When adding the hot water, I think it's supposed to go up to the breast line of the siren on the cup.
happyfordeeppeople12 points3y ago
I was trained to pour the hot water to the siren's eye, same with the coffee in a misto. Now I picture her glaring at you saying "My eyes are up here Joe "
submitizenkane5 points3y ago
You’re correct. The sirens eye is the halfway point on the hot cups.

Hot chai- half Walt half steamed milk
Cold chai- all cold milk
KeyCranberry3 points3y ago
With the water. When I get it for myself I actually like it with extra water. Anyway the standard is with water, so we should be doing it with water.
edited to add: for hot ones, the iced ones are just chai + milk + ice
_book_queen3 points3y ago
For a hot chai hot water goes to the eye of the siren and then milk for the rest and an iced chai is all milk
aimsthename882 points3y ago
I mean technically a hot chai should be half water half milk but tbh I often forget to only steam half the amount of milk and end up steaming a full pitcher. In that case, I just do all milk.
SeniorSalary1 points3y ago
If it's for myself, I never do water. If it's for a customer, I follow the official recipe (half hot water for hot chai teas, just milk and ice for iced chai teas) unless otherwise specified.
donalson1 points3y ago
hot chai tea latte... pump amount of syrup... hot water to the sirens eye (1/2 way mark) and rest with steamed 2%... if it's for me I always add a shot or 2 as the drink is WAY too sweet... I miss the lightly sweetend chai mix... I'd use it with no extra sweetener and it was PERFECT
whosevertobesosure1 points3y ago
everyone here seems to follow the rules but i will be honest. in a rush i don't do water, like i usually have to have someone on bar supervising me if im actually gonna put the water in it. im the barista you hate but also im not gonna do an extra step when i have 15 fraps to make

I was told that too a while back but I don’t know where that info originated. Prolly a rogue Sbux barista spreading fake news to make our jobs a little easier lolz
Nigee_Ogee-3 points3y ago
Me and the other baristas never put water in it. Mostly due to laziness and the majority of customers don’t want water in it anyway.
King-GoergeIII-1 points3y ago
I never put hot water, i know im supposed to put water but nobody got time for that
