Block scheduling (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by nooget24
My store is starting to do something called block scheduling soon and it basically means we'll all be put into "pods" of people who we'll be working with and this will continue for a while it seems.
I agree with it somewhat to keep us safe, but the downside is that if one person takes off in your pod and no one else in your pod can work, the entire group can't work and after seeing my new schedule, I only have 13 hours. I'm at 30 now, so that's a huge difference for me.
Another thing I was wondering is if any other stores are having like a mass hiring? My SM said apparently they're projecting a 25% loss and so they've been hiring, but no one has quit yet...they might with so little hours though.
I'm hoping that having these pods and so many new hires doesn't consistantly cut our hours so much as I'm concerned about ASU and staying eligible. Are any other stores implementing this block scheduling and how is it going for you? Any insights about your experience with that and ASU eligibility would be super helpful since I'm just starting classes in July! Thanks!

We’re barely going to be implementing it 2 weeks from now. I’m going from 34 hours to 18. My sm said that I could only cover shifts before my pod.. my pod is from 7:30am-11:30am. I’m so annoyed and if this is a permanent thing, I think I will be looking for another job.

a couple partners at my store (weve been block scheduled for almost 3 weeks now) are at ASU and they said they havent been experiencing any problems and are still eligible

I meant from here on out if our hours are cut so significantly, I wanted to know how that would work for ASU if anyone knew and was also doing the block scheduling. Also, it doesn't matter if they have it or not, we all can only work with each other to limit contact with the other pods. The way it was explained, is if one person calls off and your pod can't make that shift work without them and no one can cover that's in the pod and not working, then no one can work. So they're really discouraging call offs that aren't necessary of course.

I don't know where to find the resource for this on the hub but my SM told us that they are reducing the amount of hours required for health benefits/ ASU eligibility, etc.
