Shifts on bar?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AnnaRenae
Hey y’all. So I worked at one store and transferred to another one in a different state. At my original store, shift we’re hardly ever on bar, especially during peak. They would usually be on warming or DTO. After transferring, I noticed the shift leads at my new store always assign themselves to bar their entire shift. Since it’s been the Covid drive thru only, it’s been especially odd to me. What is y’alls take on that? Both stores seem adamant that their way is correct, so I’m just curious what everyone else does. Thanks!

Ya shifts are usually supposed to be a in a position that allows them to flex to others and be available for other things. If there’s multiple shifts on the floor someone’s one is in bar, but usually not one that is the play caller at the time.

You know, I never really noticed that but now that it's been pointed out, yeah! Our shifts are almost never on bar. The most common place to see them is CS/warming/ and sometimes drive. Basically, just support for whatever we need.

In my district, shifts are coached not to place themselves on primary bar, unless they are in a pitch and it’s literally the best/only option.

They need to have the ability to flex themselves wherever they are needed, without having to also shift other partners around. Which typically means CS, ovens or support.
