Had that weird “welcome back” meeting today. (self.starbucksbaristas)

And it really made me confront the fact that this company is just masking the fact that they care more about profit than the physical and mental health of their employees. I think they have this meeting just so they can dismiss us by saying “we care! We’re listening!,” all while not doing anything in regard to our concerns. Our SM asked all the usual questions about concerns and complaints. What was the point? They’re going to open up our lobbies on Monday regardless of what we had to say. (In my district at least. I have no idea about the rest of the country) Every single partner expressed their fears and how uncomfortable we are. My city’s cases are growing by at least 100 a day and yet it’s a perfect time to open! The governor said it’s safe!

I’m just at a loss of what to do. I don’t expect anything to come of this post, I just need to get this out there.

I totally understand your frustration. I’ve had several conversations with my SM about my concerns and I feel like nothing changes. All I get is a corporate answer like “Starbucks has made sure we feel supported and look at all of the great things they have done for us”. Meanwhile, half of our store is uncomfortable being back and none of our customers wear a face mask. This experience has really made me evaluate my time as a partner and has made me question how much longer I can take being with the company. I’m tired of being overworked, underpaid, and constantly feeling Iike I’m at my breaking point.

"you all might be super mad at each other, you know, because of all the stuff, and your feelings are valid but it's time to put aside judgement" they're straight manipulating us to focus on our frustrations with each other (in the guise of trying to improve them) instead of our frustrations with the company. I promised my SM after my last development meeting I'd try to tone down the cynicism but Seattle is making it SO HARD

It sounds like brainwashing propaganda tbh

This kinda stuff pisses me off. I ask my manger questions and I get cooperate like answers and she doesn’t answer my questions!!

I’m in it right now. It’s so fucking awkward and weird

That’s crazy they’re opening your lobby back up! My store in Hawaii reopened first only to pick up mobile orders and now we allow walk up orders as well but still zero access inside the store. Dealing with customers who are irritated by how we are operating and refusing to wear masks is the most stressful part for us, so I’m hoping they don’t allow lobby access until the lockdown is 100% lifted

Starbucks is a company. In order to innovate and serve people and pay all their baristas, and give people their time off, they need to make money. I hate how people complain about how Starbucks is just greedy. OBVIOUSLY they want money. So do you. That’s why you work for them and that’s why you would start your own business owmday

Well yeah they want money. But they want money more than they care about to wellbeing of their employees. You know, the people who actually make their money?

I live in an area where we just have a 700+ case growth over the weekend. But sure. It’s safe and we should just go back to normal.

Then you can quit or keep yourself safe and take unemployment. Paying for thousands of people’s leave hours, giving us extra money for working, free food, and bigger discounts on things that aren’t foods is a hell of a lot better than any company I’ve ever seen.

Look man, I know this problem is deeper than starbucks. We live in an economy that’s destroyed by the slightest set back. The majority of Americans can’t even afford to pay 400 dollars to cover an emergency expense.

I’m angry because I know we can do better as a nation. And I’m not going to quit this job because I LOVE it. So much. But that’s why I have high hopes. Also I can’t afford to quit lmao. I don’t know that any of us can.

Oh damn, yeah I’ve just seen a bunch of people on here hating Starbucks today, and I just wanted to be clear it’s no worse than anywhere else. Gg bro I love my job too. Currently at the ovens typing this because I haven’t had a damn sandwich to make in 30 minutes
