Paycheck took a huge nose dive(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PossibleWishbone1
I’m thinking about just filing for unemployment. My boyfriend is getting paid $600 in unemployment meanwhile I’m watching my checks plummet at a whole $100 less than what it should be (while gradually decreasing each week)
The whole $3 extra pay sounded good but I honestly feel as though taxes took it out my paycheck so I saw no difference in my check, whatsoever. I had no idea that retro pay, cat pay, ect came to an end so I’ve just been getting paid my regular hours. If I work to days a week I only get paid for those two days instead of them tacking on my average hours. I saw people taking shifts but I wasn’t sure if that was even allowed since we JUST came back to work and our store still isn’t fully open. Maybe I should start taking shifts, too but I already feel unsafe working my REGULR shifts, especially because I live in New York fucking City.
I just wanted to rant. Pls don’t come with the backlash because It could be worse and I KNOW it could be because I know a lot of people have NO job, so I’m not complaining however it’s just a big change that I’m still adjusting to. Just thinking out loud about the things I’ve seen happen over the last few weeks.

Why not file for unemployment on the lost wages? If you quit you don't get unemployment, but you may qualify based on loss wages.

I’ve actually heard my coworkers talking about partial unemployment. From my understanding, you have to be UNEMPLOYED to get unemployment but apparently you could still keep your job whilst getting unemployment to make up for lost wages (which is what you’re referring to.)
I’m just worried because my stepmom told me that people may have to pay some of these covid-relief government assistance back when tax-filing time comes back around because it’s not taxed so I may end up oweing money when I file??? I’m not sure but I think I’ll look into it.

You can get unemployment for loss wages, even when a working.
Don't listen to your stepmom. If you qualify by honest filing you don't have to pay it back. Just plan to set aside 30% for taxes.

“Unemployment” is a misnomer. You do not have to be unemployed to collect unemployment. Different states have different criteria. If you are suffering a loss of hours, and therefore suffering a loss of wages, you can make a claim. THaT doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be accepted for unemployment, but there is no harm in applying to see if you qualify.

I was just investigating my paycheck, and it seems like they dropped the catastophe pay off of it, and removed all information about it from the website...something isn't right.

I knew it! They told me my cat pay would last until the 15th and they dropped it off my paycheck WAY before that time and they stopped paying me for my average hours (retro pay). Something seemed really fishy.
Especially now that they’re saying that we’re not going to fully re-open until June 6th? Yeah, cat pay should definitely still be a thing...
