What’s the minimum hours a SSV must work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by billybobw1
Hello all! I’m currently a Barista Trainer and looking to move up in the company (become a SSV); however, I am also in school and only looking to work roughly 20 hours a week. Is that possible/foreseeable? Thank you!!

depends on your SM. i don’t work 40 or even 30 hours a week

I’ve had a supervisors who only worked 3 days a week, so 20-24 hours a week. So it depends on your SM. Appeal to them and see what they say.

Certainly possible depending on store needs. Being available to open or close or both would help your chances.

I was told that you should be working no less then 30 hrs a week. But since you are in school ask your SM to work with you on getting a comfortable amount of hours.

I’ve had two sm’s and both have told me that they don’t schedule a shift less hours than the baristas in the store

it depends i work with one girl who transferred to my store as SSV and at her old store she was only getting 8 to 10 hrs a week cause her old store had so many shifts. but at my store we get on average 33 hrs. it just depends on your SM and your Availability. i would warn you though think hard if you really want to be a shift its alot of added stress and honestly they dont pay you enough to deal with it. the only reason why i haven't stepped down is that i need the money.

Depends on your SM. I have a full time job already so Starbucks is just for extra income. I’m SSV and I work on average 20-25 hours with somewhat limited availability. But it works for my store.
My SM would keep me as SSV even if I could only work 10 hours though. I used to be an SM myself and with a lot of new partners and SSVs he needs and appreciates my help.

One of the shifts at my store gets about 10-15 because of their availability but the rest of us get anywhere between 30-40. Just depends on the SM
