Opening for the first time as a borrowed partner, help!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by calijasar0
So I’ve been with the company for a year now, and have only worked mids and closes, I’m opening for the first time at a different store next week and I’m really nervous about looking dumb or being a burden, especially because things are so different now with the coronavirus. If someone could post a list of opening tasks during the coronavirus that would be amazing!!!

at my store, we have two openers (not including the shift) so the tasks get done a lot faster rn.
this is what i do every morning:

-pill the machines

-start teas

-while teas are brewing, i collect all the sanitizer bins and buckets and start preparing those (put the towels in, but not sanitizer yet)

-start filling ice bins

-tea timer goes off, finish teas (date them, etc)

-fill sanitizer bins and place them in their spots

-fill espresso machines with the beans & calibrate (my store still has the old machines)

-stock on everything until time for open

while i do all this, someone else starts brewing coffee, switch out the pastries, checking the dates on mochas, etc. and prepare any backups that maybe needed.

i think that’s mostly everything. i’m sure the partners will be more than happy to assist and guide since you’ll be a borrowed partner! good luck!

If it helps make you feel better, I was in the same exact boat as you a few times (I opened at borrowed stores like 3-4 times, obviously not enough times to fully catch on).. the other people there are generally super understanding. Just let them know you’re generally not an opener (or have never opened) and usually they assure you it’s fine and walk you through it with no problem, and especially since you’re a borrowed partner, they’ll appreciate you even being there. Don’t worry about it too much!!
