tomorrow I ask for a raise! would it be ridiculous to ask for a 10% pay increase? I am a SSV taking on essentially the role of an ASM :)(i.redd.it)

Did you change stores at all during this time? Shifts I knew eyeing ASM transferred stores to get high volume experience. Personally I dont think right now is a great time for a raise and may impact your chances of actually being promoted to ASM later on so I’d hold on until things settle down.

i did - dec of 2019. i was at my home store just over three years. my new manager decided my jan 2020 raise - 5.5% after working with me for less than two weeks. this was the most significant raise i have gotten in my time with starbucks.

Honestly I think it could hurt to ask. We are in the middle of a time when most businesses revenue is priority number one and I just think it would be a bad look asking for a raise when everyone is hurting businesses and people.
Please don’t think I’m team Starbucks corporation on this, I’m not I’m team you want to set yourself up to get one and I don’t think now is that time.

to provide a bit more context:
the numbers here reflect my pay raises throughout my time as a partner. (229**** here!) from my two years sept 2016 -2018 as a barista, my net pay raise increase was 13%. since being promoed, and almost at my 2 year SSV mark, I have only had a net 5.5% pay increase. i thrive as a shift supervisor and often lead and coach my peers and baristas. i often go above and beyond my expectations and daily tasks to improve my store and grow my green beans; i care so much about everything that happens in the store beyond my daypart! my manager currently has me monitoring all inventory and variances and guiding our SSV team to better accuracy all around, as well as taking on training a new barista at the same time. i go above and beyond each day at work to make not only my job easier but everyone around me (ie transferring to a new store in december and first thing rearranging their entire freezer setup to improve inventory accuracy and ease of pull!)
my store manager that i have been with since december leaves at the end of this month. i want to be a huge support to the new SM coming in and i want to continue to learn business standards (will be asking for the Ops Excellence Guide!) as well as be a rolemodel and support for my peers and partners during the transition. i was on track to learn more ASM related things under the current manager, however took the cat pay for personal health related issues and returned to her preparring the team for her to leave. i truly want to step up beyond my SSV role through this and i truly believe i should earn so much more than i make, especially after doing all of the math. am i crazy to ask for 10%?

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think hourly partners can negotiate their wage. Pay is based on location, position, and time at the company. There’s a set starting wage for new hires, and scheduled raises every year. Starbucks used to have performance-based raises, but they did away with that several years ago.
I work at a corporate store in the U.S. though. I’m not sure if it’s the same at license stores or abroad. If wage is negotiable, then I need to practice my persuasion skills.

i am corporate US as well, i don’t think wage is negotiable. however - speaking with other partners at my store and learning their wages I am making significantly less money than partners with less experience. i reached out to our temporary ASM, and discussed these numbers with her privately. she agreed that i should be making more money and that it couldn’t hurt to ask - she was successful in asking for a raise as a SSV in our district previously. my sm and dm are both very thoughtful and considerate in these situations, and i do have a lot happening in my personal life financially that my sm is aware of on a casual friendly level. worst case scenario, she will be stepping down to a SSV position at another store at the end of the month, and i will have a new manager to grow under.

Best of luck!!!! If you do get the raise, it would be cool of you to share. More partners should know it’s an option. Take care!

You could get a raise outside of scheduled yearly raises, but it has to go thru your DM. Are you meeting with your DM or just SM or both?
ilovebrandonj1 points3y ago
It wouldn’t hurt to ask! Honestly I’ve very rarely seen anyone get a raise outside of a promotion or their annual raise at the beginning of the year, but it can happen. Worth a shot, worst they could do is either say no or negotiate a smaller raise.
