I would call PCC and ask what the official policy is because that does not sound okay

Omg I forgot PCC existed! I am definitely going to do that, thank you!

You’re allowed to have your phone with you on the floor, specifically to check dates and times soooo they’re wrong.
Constant texting on the floor is different, but you are allowed to have them because of that purpose 🙆🏻♀️

Yeah I know that. This is about constant texting though. In the case of what she thinks is “constant texting” is she allowed to do this?

I don’t think she is. We’ve had talks about phones in our store and my SM has never alluded the ability to do that.
There are many reasons people need to have their phone on them and you can’t take that away just because of some people possibly texting. Maybe theyre texting their sick parents care-taker, you know?
We were told that we can just send them home if it’s becomes a problem.
I would still call PCC.

Thats exactly my thought. I’m an SSV and have a pretty lax phone policy and it’s never been a problem because when I tell people to get off it except for emergencies, they do. I dont get why she feels the need to do this. I will definitely call PCC. Thanks!

What is this, grade school? What if there’s an emergency and you desperately need to have your cellphone on you to get help? Yeah no, maybe minimize use on the floor but that’s still your property. No matter how many times I’ve seen my baristas text or see short videos I still know I can’t take them away. Worst thing I’ve asked is for them to please put it away in their pockets or leave it on the desk.

It seriously feels like school and I’m OVER IT. I definitely understand wanting to minimize phone use on the floor, but her reaction to it is not okay.

Your SM is not allowed to take your phones. Your phone is your property, not property of Starbucks. By Starbucks policy (it’s in the handbook, you can find it on the hub) you are allowed to have your phone on you, on the floor, to check dates and times and in case if emergency. But it’s not ok to be texting in the floor or watching videos. If you need to respond to a text, you gotta step in the back room to do it.

Ummmmmm. No. Just don’t be rude and be on your phone in front of a customer and like get off your phone on the floor if your not like checking a date or time. No reason while your at work. And that’s when you pull someone aside and your manager can threaten a write up if it’s continuous. We had a problem with people saying they had “bowel issues” and taking their phones to the bathroom for like 30-45 minutes..... and we applied a rule to leave phones on the counter when going into the bathroom because it became such a big problem (this was like 6-7 years ago) but ever since then and 2 stores later I have t ever had anyone ever act like that.
