Had someone argue with our shift about no seating in the lobby (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lemonjuicepulp
He’s standing in the door way, and goes “Hey so y’all are open but we can’t sit down?”
Shift: “no sir, sorry. But you can still come in and order and wait for your drink, just no seating”
Him: “actually I don’t think that’s the case anymore “
Oh ? I had no idea you were the CEO of Starbucks? Yes sir let us just re set up all of our chairs just for you uwu
They had a back and forth for a good few minutes before the decided to leave

I’m so not ready to have to tell people they can’t use our bathrooms either. We can’t lock them so I’m 100% sure people are just gonna walk in and use them and someone will have to send SOMEONE ELSE in just to deep clean the bathroom because people can’t/won’t read signs. I hate these new opening procedures.

I have no advice just empathy. Before we closed for a whole month and just had no seating/no bathrooms in march for last week open we told a woman who asked that the bathrooms weren't open...she then directly said "where do you go to bathroom then" like come on our bathrooms have been open years non stop, why do we have to explain it all.

What you share is more frustrating because people should be more informed now. We already opened for curb side, now we extend it so people can come in and pay cash and card...and that's still not enough. People know how rough it is out there, it seems silly that this rare situation of history has caused things like no sitting and no bathroom and people don't understand why every kid in this country didn't have privilege to finish their school year but somehow they should have privileges to hang out.

The one positive is it does seem like the minority of people
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 45 points 3y ago
Honestly people truly don’t know how rough it is honestly. They think cause their family member hasn’t gotten it it’s probably just some myth invented by the democrats. It tends to be mostly boomers who can’t seem to wrap their privileged minds around having to follow rules. I’m on my 10 right now and our mobile orders were really piling up with people standing in the lobby. We have stickers on the ground staring they need to stand 6 fr apart and what do they do? Stand shoulder to shoulder with their arms crossing tapping their feet because they shouldn’t have to wait so long for their iced venti caramel macchiato with 6 shots of espresso extra caramel drizzle before work. Meanwhile my manager only views us as machines and can’t grasp that we’re simply being stretched too thin. No, the wait times are our fault, not people adding to a line that is already wrapping a full square around our building .

Our manager said that our DM is adding an additional Partner to our regular plays so they can stand in the cafe and direct customers to remain on the circles or outside the store if too many people show up. We’re also not opening until everyone is feeling comfortable, safe, and confident in the new procedures. We’ve been having meetings every week and individual check-ins with our SM. Usually she kinda sucks and doesn’t seem to care so much about us, so I assumed all of this as a requirement from corporate. But after reading a few posts re:reopening, I’m wondering if managers are allowed to do things however they want.
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 18 points 3y ago
HAHA man . Imagine having your feelings considered. We had that cult meeting earlier and my store manager asks “anyone who’s uncomfortable opening the lobby during ‘all this stuff happening’ raise your hand”
My /shift/ raises her hand
My store manager has the AUDACITY to say in a cocky rude tone: “ ok well maybe retail wasn’t suited for you” go fuck your self . He PLANNED for no one to raise their hand. What a narcissist
laurenbench 7 points 3y ago
That is the shittiest thing ever and I’m literally begging to to contact your dm or ppc so someone can tell this guy to get a grip. You don’t deserve that.
jayessdubs 7 points 3y ago
do you guys not have anyone guarding the door ? We havent opened up yet, but we're supposed to have a door guard to limit the number of people inside and I'm really worried people wont listen and will just force their way in
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 7 points 3y ago
We’re literally so understaffed that we only had 2 human beings open the store today. We can’t do that even if I suggested it
Keeponrocking613 1 points 3y ago
For our store they said we would have an extra person per shift to do doors but I also don't know how well people will listen
idk_ijustgohard 2 points 3y ago
To the lady who asked “where do you go to the bathroom then” I would have replied “I don’t.” and smiled sweetly. Or alternately, “I go home, where you should be right now.”

I’d probably get fired. Totally worth it.
elodieme1 1 points 3y ago
Technically there's something called Ally's law or something like that, which is a thing in 16? states. If someone says they need to use the bathroom for a medical reason, and you're in one of those states, you have to let them :(
Rupindah 23 points 3y ago
Where I live restaurants are allowed to be open now with 50% capacity and diners 6 feet apart. So people think we’re open too and keep asking us why we aren’t when they come through DT after trying the door. Like idk I’m a minimum wage barista
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 5 points 3y ago
Yeah I love the WHY questions . And then you explain why and it’s like trying to verbally read heiraglyphics to someone. Then they wanna know WHEN and then blablablabla la
kait_lynb 16 points 3y ago
Our bathrooms have codes so luckily we’ll be okay in that department. Maybe put some tables and chairs in front of the bathrooms if your SM lets you?
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 5 points 3y ago
I’m not even gonna bother honestly. I’m in such a state of misery I just have no intention of trying any harder than I have to. I’ll let him deal with that if he ever notices
lewabwee 5 points 3y ago
We blocked ours off sort of but you can still slide past the furniture. I’m sure someone will use it eventually and it’s Starbucks not Costco so wuddyagunnado?
jams1015 6 points 3y ago
Give them a recovery card!
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 4 points 3y ago
I think we WERE gonna use a chair wall but he really truly believes people will read a tiny white sheet of copy paper on our white wall saying our bathrooms are closed. Whatcha gonna do
lewabwee 2 points 3y ago
We wrote it out in chalk marker on the table barricading people off haha. At least they can’t miss it and if they use the bathroom we know they know what they’re doing.

My state is in the process of opening back up and people keeping coming in to inform me that we were required to have our patio back open on Monday or our seating is required to be back open on Friday.

No, ma’am, we were allowed to open our patio on Monday but we chose not to.

Someone literally looked at my SM and was like “so was that a you decision or a corporate decision?” Like she was gunna call corporate to report us for not opening our lobby
piscespost 9 points 3y ago
I feel you, dude. Just had a customer call me to order a Double Chocolate frape and I had to tell her to order it through her phone.
HollowRibcage 9 points 3y ago
So we actually have his happen quite often at our store but most recent was during a swap out of shift groups (we’re scheduled in blocks so one set of people don’t cross with another set, that way if someone gets infected it’s not the whole team going down yaknow just the people who worked with that partner.) well basically our door momentarily was unlocked. HOWEVER we do have two signs on our door..saying lobby is closed but drive is open. This lady stops. Reads the signs. Opens the door. Walks in. Starts looking around in the mobile drop off ... all of us are silently staring at her and each other back and forth while she’s walking in ..basically baffled. She says « i ordered two java chip fraps «  So baffled that everyone of us tried to tell her she couldn’t be in the store and yet no one could say a complete sentence. It took me pointing to the door and saying she needs to leave.
sinisterbird420 7 points 3y ago
reading this, i know this is a glimpse of what is coming for our store.

sending you strength <3 this is an awful time. I hope they extend hazard pay...
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 3 points 3y ago
Thank you friend ❤️I’ve been told by one of my coworkers that the hazard pay has long since been discontinued
[deleted] 5 points 3y ago
Out lobby is closed except for mobile pickup and i have asked 5(!!!!!!) People to leave because theyve MOVED THE TABLES OUT OF THE WAY ATTEMPTING TO COME IN AND ORDER OR USE THE BATHROOM DESPITE THE 4 FUCKING SIGNS STRATEGICALLY PLACED ON THE DOOR AND PATIO SAYING OUT LOBBY IS CLOSED EXCEPT FOR PICK UP DIRECTLY IN THE DOORWAY. The mom that moved everything so her kid could attempt to sprint to the bathroom while i was watching drive thru (6 am and my opening barista was in the back grabbing something) really pissed me off. Argued with her for almost 10 minutes after politely telling her our lobby and restrooms are closed. " but my son is little and HAS to go" Ma'am your aon is AT LEAST 8 and we share a parking lot with a gas station that has open restrooms, kindly fuck off and use your eyes next time to read.
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 2 points 3y ago
God that’s miserable. My manager would’ve just told me to let them in anyway and maybe even offer her a free drink for the ‘misunderstanding’ :)))*eyetwitch*
Starbucks customer attitude+mombie= AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!
[deleted] 1 points 3y ago
My old gm was that way. Thankfully i transferred to an amazing new store with a gm who started as a barista because i was on the cusp of leaving the company because of my old store. Everyday was internal screaming
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Yeah that sucks but I’m glad you found a good store. I think I need to find a new job cause every day I get more and more tired of the entitled attitude of our customers and how my coworkers bend over backwards and bring their orders up before everyone else in line cause they’re regulars. Like yeah cool they’re regulars but like everyone should have to wait like everyone else, it’s just not fair imo
chinfox 4 points 3y ago
put something heavy in front of those doors! unfortunately stupid customers will always prevail. we’re looking to reopen our lobby soon but all of our furniture is hidden in the girls bathroom and we plan to block the men’s bathroom for partner use only
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 6 points 3y ago
Yeah Idk it’s all up to my manager. His attitude towards our reopening however makes me not even wanna bother asking to do something because I hate how he talks down to me. When our lobby was officially opened he Screamed trying to hype us all up. Literally none of us could even be bothered. Whenever we’re all clearly stressed and miserable (literally he is what makes it so awful) he’ll try to make really cringe jokes and sign obnoxiously loud. It’s awful. I want to eat a brick
chinfox 4 points 3y ago
ugh I definitely know some partners like that. Hopefully when he realizes he’s burning y’all out more than ‘improving morale’ he’ll figure out a better plan to connect with you guys and fix the root of the problem to make his TEAM feel better. unfortunately i think a lot of SM’s lose sight of how important it is that partners are happy before anything can really be accomplished. good luck to you, friend.
lemonjuicepulp [OP] 2 points 3y ago
Thank you that last statement really rings true. I think if the company Starbucks was a human he would try to make sweet passionate love to it. He’s literally blinded by making sales and just brown nosing every possible person . Much love and support to you buddy
elysemosunset 3 points 3y ago
We keep our doors locked and one partner at the door .. he just wanted to pick a fight with you . Do they not know what's happening
sassy7girl 3 points 3y ago
In regards to bathrooms- for grab n go model they ARE to be locked for partner use only- but also we’re told that a first responder in uniform is to be allowed to use it if needed.
tiredbaristaa 2 points 3y ago
So frustrating luckily never had that
