Whats your guys average tip rate? I think we should raise more awareness about this instead.(self.starbucksbaristas)

When I was at a high volume cafe off an interstate, our tip rate was only $1/hour or so. Sometimes went to $1.25-50.
I transferred to a low volume cafe in a neighborhood, no interstate, not many office buildings nearby or anything to give us much business. I see the same customers a lot. Our tip rate is also $1-1.5 on average.
Local coffee shops that use POS systems such as Square are able to make near double their hourly pay because of tips. Most of our orders are through cards. Yet people cant tip through a card payment. They can tip through the app, which doesnt occupy as many of our sales. They can tip through cash, which hardly anyone carries. I hardly ever have to give someone change for their order because no one pays in cash.
Lets be realistic, Starbucks likely wont give us a raise. But allowing us to recieve tips through card payments wouldnt come out of their greedy pockets. Even if just 20% of people left a $0.50 tip, that'd be a nice boost.

I used to work for a different coffee shop before Starbucks. When I moved states I was forced to get a job with Starbucks sadly as the other company didn’t have any locations in the state I moved to even though it wasn’t just a local shop. Not only did I make more money hourly as a simple barista vs a SSV at Starbucks, but I easily made AT LEAST $40 in tips PER SHIFT at the other place and we barely make .75/hr in tips at our Starbucks. Some major BS if you ask me lol. I think it has a lot to do with our garbage POS systems since the other coffee shop had the Square POS system that asked customers if they wanted to tip after every transaction.

Ours is typically 50-60 cents for a relatively high volume DT neighborhood store. Recently it’s been closer to 1-1.25.

Its like volume hurts us more. 😂

I honesty think it’s the socioeconomic class of the neighborhood. Upper/middle class and wealthy. Mostly pay with the app or credit card and generally tip for shit anyway. Until recently, they could only tip 2 on the app and no tips for credit card. We are getting more cash tips these days but I think a lot of it is showing up on app tipping.

Ours was usually between $1-$1.50. Since we reopened it’s been about $0.40.

We're a fairly busy neighborhoof store in Chicago and yet we make about 75 cents on a good week. Tip rste right now is about 40 cents. Borrowed partners are always shocked by how low it is
