Can anyone explain how to balance the tills / deposit / safe at the end of the night please? (self.starbucksbaristas)

New shift, struggling to grasp how to handle the money at close. What I do is I tip out digital tips using cash from top 1 and then balance that reg with safe cash. Then I take the tills and balance them to $200 pulling the extra cash and putting it in the deposit bag. What I don’t understand is how is the safe supposed to stay balanced if I use safe cash to balance the tip outs for digital tips? Or what if the register is under $200? I’m just scared I’m doing it wrong.

Balance R1 from the deposit, not from safe after pulling tips. When you finalize the deposit change the amount based on what you pulled out. There’s an option on the click down menu that says “changed to balance tills/safe”. The money in the safe should only be used to make change for the drawers.

Balance from the deposit bag, not the safe!

You should take digital tips from a til before you balance them. Use the deposit money to balance any tils that are under when you’re counting them down. If you need to have enough coin wrappers in the tils for opening (2 of each) then take that money from said til, put it in the safe money pouch and take change from the safe. For example, I need a roll of quarters and a roll of nickels and 2 rolls of pennies. So I would take 13 dollars from that til, put it in the safe cash pouch, and take those rolls needed from the safe and put them in the tils. THEN go and count down the tils. Whatever is over 200 goes into the deposit bag. If a til is under 200 at the end of the night, take money from the deposit to make 200. If the safe is under, also take from the deposit bag to make 1000. When you finalize the deposit, you’ll adjust the amount of the deposit with whatever changes you made making sure everything was balanced. If that makes sense?
