Reporting a shift and does it actually do anything? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kait_lynb
There’s a specific shift at my store that everyone seems to have a problem with, including myself. I kinda want to talk to our SM about it but I don’t want them to know it was me who had the issue specifically out of fear I’ll be treated worse. It’s nothing too serious it’s just their whole attitude. Sure, we all have that one shift that is a little harder on us, but not like this. They always get on to everyone with what they’re doing wrong, but never tells them how to get things right, they also never compliment us when we’re actually doing a good job. Like I pulled out my phone to check the calendar for the date so I can properly date the caramels and literally a split second glance got me a loud and hateful “put your phone away!” Like damn, sorry I want to know what the date is and that’s literally the closest thing to me, it wasn’t even all the way out of my hand. I did the little pocket peek thing! A lot of my partners have moved to evening shifts to avoid this shift completely. So I just want to know, if I talk to my SM about this, would it even really help? Every store is different I know, but it’s just getting on my nerves man.

I feel like if you express that it isn’t just you that feels this way then the SM has to at least address the situation. I get the fear of being targeted, but you can always request to remain anonymous. Bottom line, if you don’t say anything, it won’t get better, so I’d recommend at least trying to address it

Thank you friend, it’s a tricky situation and I gotta find a good time to address it

If you could go to your sm and say you’re reporting it for someone else who doesn’t feel safe coming forward, would that make you feel more comfortable? Coaching is a part of SSVs positions so an SM should know if they aren’t doing it correctly

If you are cool with other shifts, especially if they have seen the behavior themselves, I would talk to a shift about it and ask them to talk to the SM about it and to keep your name out of it. I am a shift and have had conversations with the SM about baristas concerns that they were afraid to being to the SM themselves for the same reasons you have.
