Quitting...? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by directionlesschick
I've been a partner since 2014 and I am seriously considering quitting. This job leaves me miserable and aching, I come to my shifts and feel like I work too hard for how little I get paid. Along with all the worry about bringing home Covid to my elderly grandma now, it's starting to feel like it's time. How should I approach my manager? And if I quit, could I be rehired in the future?

If you can afford to not work right now, the unpaid LOA was extended for the entire summer.

I also was hired in 2014 and I've finally found a new job and leaving for good. I've dreamed of my last day and I am so happy its finally happening. I recommend leaving because this job is simply not worth it. My mental health is shit because of this place, and I'm sure you're feeling the same way and its just not a good quality of life. Other partners make it seem like you're crazy or ungrateful for not absolutely loving this job and while the benefits are great, I believe it is just an attempt to keep partners happy without actually changing the dynamic in the stores. I recommend trying to find another job ASAP (if possible) or going on unemployment. Trust me, the stress put on by this job is severely downplayed and not worth the mental anguish.

Thank you. I definitely deal with other partners treating me like I'm crazy for daring to be miserable at this place. I've worked at several stores since 2014 so I know it's not just a manager or a crew, it's a problem with the whole dynamic Starbucks creates between the customers and us. For instance, wearing masks is mandated for anyone entering an indoor public space here. In our three hour meeting, during which we were reminded several times about the importance of wearing our masks and frequently washing our hands, we were told that it is company policy to serve people without masks anyway, irregardless of local ordinance. Then the official paperwork claims its because "partner safety is paramount" or whatever, which I would understand if the obvious first goal of this response wasn't to *make the sale*.

The company is a soulless entity, I knew that when I got hired, but the delusion of morality that it publically portrays has become too hard for me to continue to reconcile. I took the leave that was offered today through September. I'm off the schedule two weeks from now and I won't be going back.

I’m sorry you’re feeling stressed out and upset especially with how huge of an impact the COVID situation had on the partners. :// I don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t be able to get hired back. You’ve already put a lot of time into the company and I’m sure they see your loyalty, but if I were you I would sit down with a shift you trust and be transparent with how you feel. Giving 1-2 weeks is nice as a courtesy too if you want to be rehired however not required.
I hope this helps a bit, good luck with everything!
