Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

Our thermometer hasn’t given a temperature that is remotely close to possible for a living human. The highest it ever got was 95.5, and usually says people are in the low 80s or won’t even read the temperature because it’s so low. Is this a problem at any other stores? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Yeah it's inconsistent af and needs to be calibrated. I'm sure most of us arent doing it right either, like not holding it long enough or in the right position. I would 100% say get a normal oral thermometer and check your temp with your own in addition to the store one.

this seems like a consistent problem. i would like to see some stats on how many of their thermometers actually work and if screening measures are even taken seriously

Maybe report it to OSHA...? especially since you've brought it up to managers and they have not acted. My state was encouraging reports if safe practices aren't being followed regarding preventing COVID...

Same at my spouse’s store 95.5 is the norm...once it reached 100 when someone held it directly over a fresh cup of coffee and tried it...
ReEliseYT 7 points 3y ago
I’m totally taking the temperature of a cup of coffee to make my point about it being completely inaccurate. Thank you for the idea!

No prob! It is funny, they didn’t do it on purpose, one of the little teenage shits there was trying to get out of work by faking their temp and did it and got caught 😂

my stores thermometer one day just started reading in celsius instead of Fahrenheit... no one knows how to change it back. i take my temp and honestly don’t even know what the numbers mean
analiseh18 1 points 3y ago
ours does this too, but i believe anything above 38 degrees counts as a fever
wuddupitsjess 1 points 3y ago
If you have a fever it will glow red and beep, but will glow green if you’re under the fever temp. But Celsius can be a problem if you don’t know if it’s calibrated correctly...
MiS_Schuey 3 points 3y ago
Yea, more times than not we clock in at 90-93 F
JCaligirl420 3 points 3y ago
Ours said 94° for me this morning. Like I know I run low normally but damn I guess this job did finally kill me!
smaidit 2 points 3y ago
Yeah ours is consistently 95-96 and that’s just obviously not right and I’ve said it so many times but no one pays mind to it
wuddupitsjess 1 points 3y ago
This is happening at my store as well, keeps telling me I’m 92°..... someone recalibrated it last week but it’s back to the bs numbers.
Also having the issue of partners coming in from their hot cars and being read as having a fever... I’ve been asking my own temp at home because this thing is definitely not reliable!

There's a setting on the thermometer to read "surface" and another for "internal." Make sure it's set correctly. We had it wrong and were confused briefly.
schweffy315 1 points 3y ago
We haven’t even gotten a thermometer yet
SinisterThimble 1 points 3y ago
It's probably set to read the ambient temperature of the room. Ours got stuck on that for a while before it got switched back.

We had a similar issue! Make sure it’s on People setting & not ambient temp. One day every partner read in the mid 80s and we were like tf. Don’t know if that’ll help but we felt DUMB dumb 😂
