how to avoid sugary drinks (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mvbxox01
i love adding extra pumps and syrups to my morning coffee at work. however it’s not helping my waist line. my question is: how do you avoid the temptation of sugary drinks during your shift??

Slowly cut back. You won't miss it once you get used to it.

Always keep a water nearby. Drink water constantly. When you’re tired, your body will naturally crave sugar. Drink some water and see if you’re still craving. If you are, try and have a snack. Eat real food so you’re satiated longer and don’t crave. If you can, eat a small meal or have a snack before your shift.

maybe add splenda or stevia to your drinks? maybe even raw sugar? the sweeteners we have can definitely make a drink a lot more sweet without having to add a lot of pumps. experiment to get to what you like!

Add cinnamon! There’s some real medical/chemical reason why cinnamon helps with sweet cravings but I don’t remember it at the moment.... but I find that if I add a lil milk/cream/non-dairy milk to my coffee and top it off with cinnamon, I’m very content with the sweetness!!

Drink water every break !

I have a rule that I need to drink 1 venti cup of water for each sugary drink I have, and I only get them in tall sizes. This usually leads to me only having one during my lunch break, and sometimes one to take home if I don’t close. I’ve also been avoiding the temptation to drink more sugary stuff when it’s slow by keeping constantly busy and just drinking shots of espresso or a cup of nitro if I really need a quick pick-me up.

Okay so I'm trying to cut back also and I experimented a bit today and came up with something. I put Earl grey, English royal breakfast, and Emperor's cloud into a hot cup to steep in hot water (I did 30 mins? Basically trying to make a concentrate without over steeping and making it bitter. Timing works best if you're an opener since it's not busy yet). Then after times up, I pour it into a cold cup, add sugar free vanilla, and then mix, add ice, and a splash of milk. Basically an iced London fog+. It was tasty and refreshing! Time consuming but if you time yourself right easy!
