surprise visit from our DM (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by rabbitmom1999
this lady scares me so much. and apparently now we have to take names at drive thru to try to increase our customer connection score. it all feels so gross and artificial.

also, my store at least is focusing more on customer connection than speed, which is great in theory, but they’re going to start enforcing stricter scheduling rules that basically mean if we have less customers we get less total hours. so im basically being told to give up my hours for the chance for customers to rate us higher on some arbitrary scale, and this just kind of pisses me off. anyone else? I agree with the overall Starbucks mission and message, but this is just not genuine.

When you try to commoditize human connection, you inherently end up bastardizing it. Starbucks' corporate powers that be don't seem to understand that.

My DM enforced the same rule of taking names at the drive thru and you have no idea how many people I’ve seen through the little camera make a weird face. Some have even asked “why?” in response. The majority drive away while I’m mid-sentence into asking for their name.

Our DM is exactly the same! She cut all of our hours - i had almost 40 hours every week and was excited that I could actually pay bills and shit without worrying too much - and now i have less than 20. It's the same for basically all the other partners at the store.

We've been told that if we don't get our times quicker and our connections up, we'll just keep getting hours cut. I'd like to know how tf we're supposed to do that with only 3 people on the floor during peak.

We were doing that for about a year, we got a new SM and he said we don’t have to do that right now. So silly to implement this right now when tensions are so high already

Why does your DM scare you? They shouldn’t. If they’re living up to our mission they should be accessible and supportive whenever you need them. Does your SM go into panic mode when they know they’re coming?

With the name thing, honestly, give it a chance. After a few interactions it’ll come just as natural as taking names at the front. But it should be demonstrated by a leader to show that.

we all go into panic mode when we know she’s coming. she just immediately starts looking for things we’re doing wrong, mostly pointing out things we need to clean. she sat with my SM at the other end of the store, just staring at us and obviously talking about us, and gave our two new hires shit for not having their hair in a bun. idk man I’ve never had a real conversation with her and she is just really good at making us feel like we’re doing everything wrong.
