Feeling very “hmm...” about my hours (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PossibleWishbone1
So I understand that everyone’s hours got cut, yes. However, I noticed that some people barely got their hours touched. I’m usually full-time and saw my hours go from 30, maybe 32 to only working four hour shifts two or three times a week.

However when I look on the schedule, there are people who went from 30 hours to 28 hours. I would kill for even 28 hours but my hours are legit in the single digits. I plan to file for unemployment but like...it just seems to weird to me. Idk if my manager is playing favorites or what.

Yeah same I’m seeing people at my job get a lot of hours and mine are reduced by 4-8 hours. And then there’s also some people complaining about working all the time, yet here I am begging to work more and I’m taking all the shifts I can :/ and I can’t even get the CERB or student money from CAN government because I make barely over the limit of what they are accepting

I’m so sorry!

The natural thing to do is pick up shifts, yes but because of the pandemic I’ve just decided to take whatever hours I can get because I filed for unemployment.

I hope things get resolved. I think it’s a strategy Starbucks uses to see who can withstand the shitty hours they’ve been giving and eventually force you to want to quit. Hang in there!

This is happening at my store too but it’s happening in a more fair way. Everyone who is asking for more hours are getting them whether it be at our own store or another store, while some of our partners are happy with having more time off. I guess we have a good balance between people who want to work a lot and people who don’t.

Yeah we just got a a text from our SM saying they are cutting hours again after like 3 revised schedules

I believe you can file for unemployment if your hours were cut. I had 2 jobs and got laid off my full time job and still applied. I just couldn't make more than my weekly benefit anount or I wouldn't qualify for that week.

Yeah, I just filed for unemployment tonight and I’m hoping to qualify for at least SOME benefits. I just really need my full paycheck back. I got hit with a $200 paycheck and was like, “Hmmm, I could work with this.” Then it started going down into the $100’s and I realized I can no longer just stand by and watch my check diminish before my very eyes lol. My pay got cut by a whole $200+!!! That’s absolutely insane to me.

You can take a LOA with starbucks. Still qualify for unemployment. And Starbucks will still pay health benefits and other benefits are retained to sept.

My hours got cut to complete zero myself.

Oh no! I’m so sorry. I always take that as an indication of getting fired but then I remember that I would have to be notified of my release and also, sometimes...it’s very stupid and i’m not sure why it happens but managers “forget” to schedule you at all.

Starbucks is supposed to pay the hours you don’t get as a « catastrophic pay » until mid June normally
PossibleWishbone1 [OP] 2 points 3y ago
My CAT pay has been cut since maybe late April? Early May? I forget but yeah, I’ve been hearing that it’s suppose to go on until June but I’ve checked my paystubs and I’m only getting paid my scheduled hours. I wanna call PCC and ask what the issue is but they’re going to tell me they don’t see anything wrong or try to convince me that I’m getting paid what I’m supposed to. Idk, they’re pretty useless to me.

No way! Call!!!

I’ve gone from 33 to 20 hours, and that’s because I was set to just walk out one day. The sm has the audacity to ask why I wasn’t happy.. oh! You mean, I’m supposed to go from mostly 33 hours, sooooometimes 36 hours to 15, still come 5 days a week, and just be ok with it????

And we got a new sm this last month because of some stores reopening and others closing. And this sm made sure I knew that because my hours went from my (I believe she said) February average of 33 hours to 27.5 2 weeks ago, I would be paid the difference of 5.5 hours as my normal pay rate. That since my hours were below average for the rest of the month, to keep an eye on my paystubs for when they left, and make sure that I was still getting paid for any missing hours. That my paycheck should show a total of 33 hours, they may be paid at different rates, but that tota hours payed should always be at 33.

So definitely call. Anyone, but call.
