Im nervous about it. My store skipped phase two, went straight to three, and I do NOT feel safe.

Im also trying really hard to make sure that I am *that person* though. The person that is always there, that covers a shift, that you can call because someone called out and you just CANT run a two man floor with breaks. You know, the one who gets the promotion. (At the cost of my sanity we shall see).

So I dont feel like I can go ahead and take unemployment. Oh yeah, and we just got our hours cut because our store isnt making enough profit. I have to have a minimum of 25 hours to make my bills. Thats not groceries, or gas. 25. You want to know what Im getting this week? 17. Do you want to know who cant complain because all of her coworkers are getting only ten this week? Me.

Im a bad customer away from a meltdown. My grandma will die sometime this year from cancer (a year if chemo works, 2 mo if chemo doesnt). And I feel like I am CRUMBLING from the stress. My room is a mess and my cats are confused why Im squeezing them so tight.

That’s what I’m afraid of, I’m that partner who has been around for way longer than a decade and if I took this route it will be frowned upon by so many leaders in my region. It would come as a shock because I was there through so many rough times at Starbucks and survived it by helping push sales and once again seeing the company prosper. The way I see it is this... as long as my hours increase as I am currently seeing with our hours being extended slowly back to normal.... I will stay. As much as I’d love to be safe at home with my family down south, I’m sure I would come back to either a termination agreement, a demotion, or a barista position that won’t guarantee me any sort of hours. Yes, I could be making so much more money by taking the extra $600, but I also have to keep reminding myself that January will be here soon enough and back to reality it is. I say this because I wouldn’t be surprised if they extend the LOA to the end of the year if things don’t improve with our economy and many will take that option. Of course, things are always changing and extensions are happening because things aren’t getting any better BUT eventually it will all come to a halt and we’ll have to deal with it on our own after that.

Thank you for this info, I’ve been contemplating it since I read the message from Rossann. I don’t feel safe, we will be grab and go on Monday, I’m done being belittled, harasses, told we don’t know what we’re doing, that we run out of stuff too much, yeah because our line is never endin! Mentally I am not ok. I’m really thinking of just staying home with my kids until 9/30

I really hope everyone does their own research. My state is doing heavy investigations into unemployment fraud. If you have been offered work and declined it they are cutting benefits immediately and pursuing repayment back to the time work was offered. They've contacted employers and are sending links out to businesses for an online portal to report workers who refused to return for reopening. Fear of Corona is not a valid reason in our state and a manager we know (for another business) was denied the disability pay from the state even with a history of heart disease and stroke because their primary doctor is furloughed/closed and they can't find someone willing to do the paperwork. There are 50 different ways this could go. Keep that in mind, especially in Red states and states in HUGE operating deficits. These stimulus bills won't last forever.
