I work at sbux because they promised (in writing) not to fire me for being gay. I live in a state where that would be perfectly legal to do, and I have seen it happen. There is no federal protection against workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The fact that the corporation itself has a non-discriminatory clause is legally enforceable no matter the state/federal law. This means a lot to me and is why I came back after a long hiatus (125\*\*\*\* partner no.) I don't even use the health insurance, and I don't mind the low pay and stressful environment if I can at least have the option to be out at work and feel safe.
Plus I can wear a pride pin at work and nobody can say shit to me. I don't even think there is another place here where that would be possible.
