I’ve been dreaming of working at starbucks and I’m finally able to apply, now all I have to do is cross my fingers and hope, right? (i’m kidding! I know I should call and such) if I do get the interview and job, what are some things that would make training and my new job a little easier? thank you! and if any of you have interview tips lmk :)

Not to be a downer or anything but Starbucks is really fucking us over right now. They’re severely cutting hours and I’ve heard some people say they’re actually firing some people. People are being given the chance to leave without pay. Rn I recommend applying elsewhere until things get back to a semi normal way. Prob not what you wanted to hear but yeah

Last I heard the company is on a complete hiring freeze because of covid and hours. Current partners are getting the shit end of the stick. Look elsewhere until they get their shit together

So.. things are weird right now and it will depend on your are and store and manager on how things will be BUT
My general points are - your first like month or so will be super stressful and it’s totally normal to be nervous or feel overwhelmed. Give things time and it gets way easier (but still stressful if you’re a high volume store). Ask HELLA questions. Not sure? Ask. You asked but forgot? Ask again. USUALLY (in my experience with 4 locations) your fellow partners will be happy to help you and explain anything you want to ask. I personally LOVE to teach and learn new things, so I live for people asking me things or teaching ME new things. You may feel like you’re annoyingly or asking too many questions or that you’re learning too slow.. but you’re not, I promise.
Be okay with being wrong and receiving constructive criticism. This is how you learn. Messing up is totally okay too, and it’s expected. It’s okay to be bad at something, you kinda have to be bad/slow at something before you can be awesome at it. I would highly recommend knowing your learning style as well. I like to ask people how they learn best so I can speak their language. I learn best by doing and by teaching others, you may learn by watching or by diagrams or whatever idk. But know your preferred learning style so you can learn most effectively. Don’t be afraid to tell them you learn best a specific way - if they’re a good trainer they’ll listen and at least discuss it with you.
And remember, at the end of the day... it’s just coffee (this is 100% something we say at my location when someone is struggling to most past a shit customer or after a huge spill or messed up coffee so they remember to let it go)

I will also note that I am not in a major city, so as of now my store and city is largely not impacted by protesters/rioters. You may have issues being hired in cities where this is impacting stores.
Interview tips - I think a good general guideline is to show that you genuinely care about helping people and building those relationships. You can teach anyone to make coffee, you can’t teach someone to be a kind person. I’m not sure what store managers look for though, hopefully someone who knows specifics will see this and shed some light there. Be yourself though
