Nails! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Toomanyboringpeople
Anyone else wonder why we can’t have fake nails? I understand that nail polish chips but fake nails and gel don’t! I know it’s dumb but I just wanna have cute nails sometimes 😂

It’s due to food safety. The nails can come off. The paint can chip and fall in the drink. Your hands are constantly wet and getting hit with steam.

The fact is, there doesn’t even have to be a reason, though, the company can just say “because we say so”.

I guess that’s true it is possible they can fall off but your right I wish the company gave legit reasons instead of just “because we say so”

It’s also because nails harbor a tonnn of bacteria. That’s the reason why nurses and doctors can’t have anything on them and keep them short. It’s less that it’ll fall off, which is a concern, but mainly it’s just not clean.

If you want cute nails for just a few days press on nails work pretty well!

The reasons are stated in the Partner Guide.

You did do servesafe right? It's national health guidelines. No one in food service can have nails.

Also, have you ever tried wearing gloves with fake nails? They will shred through the gloves. So if you ever had to wear gloves, it would be a disaster.

i hate this rule! i'm not paying upwards of $50 for nails that will just fall off. also, theres no reason my nails would be coming into contact with any food or drinks since we use tongs for everything.

It's also because if you have food under your nails it can grow bacteria or cross contaminate

I think it’s a food safety rule because technically the fake nails could fall off and into someone’s food or drink 😅
