Is option 3 even an option for me? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kutl3ss
Anyone know what happens if you apply for option 3 and it is declined? I got accepted into a business school for the fall and was planning on turning in my 2 weeks soon anyways. My store is in a high traffic area so hours aren't planning to drop much, I feel like If I get denied that it's basically like nothing really changed and they picked option 1 for me.

I highly doubt it will be declined. Many partners are recieving less hours so more hiurs for everyone to go around gives them a little relief on the 'all the employees are pissed about hours' front.

*that's why they are offering a comp package of 60 hours + health benefits*

The only reason I asked is that the shift I mentioned above had been told since we were a high volume store that hours wouldn't be affected much. The way the situation was presented to me sounded wishy washy in my mind considering it was up to their discretion.

Its supposed to be averaged by district after preferences are stated.

What I expect will happen, is that people who are frequently absent or have been on loa and wanted to go back to work will be asked to do a LOA for the time being.

I dont understand why we bulk hired only to fuck it up and ask people to leave.

short term solutions to focus on now rather than later seems to be the trend in this weather.

i didn’t know we could get denied for choosing option 3...

It's been stated that we are choosing our "preference" and that the outcome will be decided between our SMs and DMs based on district needs I believe. I may be wrong, but based on reading the form with the 3 options along with talking to a shift at my store, it seems it's not completely up to us.

Right I don’t think it is

I also wonder if not only can it be denied but can we be given “separation” even if we choose LOA or to stay?

This faq if the pdf explains how they determine preferences— to cut # of peeps competing for hours:

Q: What factors did Starbucks use to determine if partner preferences were honored or how partners were selected to have their preferences honored?
A: The determination was made based on business needs for staffing, partner preferences and partners’ availability relative to the business needs. In the event that this criteria wasn’t sufficient to reduce the number of partners competing for hours managers considered documented corrective actions (Final Written Warning or multiple Written Warnings in the past year) and company tenure. Undocumented performance issues were not considered.

Still feel the SMS discretion would top all... my SM was telling me today in my 1 on 1 that since we are a high volume store, hours would most likely not be cut. In fact she stated we would probably need additional help from other stores and that they would be staffing based on the districts needs and not only our stores. I feel like preference 2 is not even an option for my district considering my store and others have actually topped last years sales numbers and still managed to grow. I’m just worried I won’t be allowed option 3, and that I’ll still be putting my 2 weeks notice in without the additional benefits associated with the separation package.

Hope you get your choice!

Our store has fluctuated with labor but our sales seem to be meeting goals/ not sure but looks like hours might catch back up fast unless SM’s are instructed otherwise..... which would possibly make a LOA choice brief plus I kinda think it might be sort of an indication that we’re not really committed.. (?) possibly they’re trying to Also separate the ‘wheat from the chaff’ so to speak. The whole thing is very uncomfortable.
