Barista's Who Act Like Karens(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LKP95
We all work for the Siren. We know how hard we work. We know how long it takes to make drinks. We know how annoying it is to get last minute orders. We know how annoying it is when Karen complains about the smallest things. IF YOU WORK FOR STARBUCKS, THEN PLEASE DON'T BE THIS PERSON! YOU KNOW BETTER!
Thank you for listening.

There used to be a woman who worked at sb in the next town over who would come into our store sometimes and just be SO INPATIENT AND RUDE Especially with the new baristas. Boggles my mind.
Assiqtaq1 points3y ago
Repaying the ones who do that to her by doing it to others. Justifying why people can be that way to her who doesn't deserve it by being the one to do it. Stupid people. I much prefer to pay it all up by being the customer I want, rather than paying it down by being the customer I dread.

a new partner at another store just started coming to mine, their numbers are like 29* or 289* they’re new idk, but they are SO rude. it makes me so mad
BaristaBoiJacoby29 points3y ago
We're already up to 28*-289**?!? Now I'm feeling old only at a 257*
Bryancreates18 points3y ago
154**** checking in. But I left over a year ago.... I have a couple friends with 6 digits who still work for the company, one was the first store in the our state. The turnover rate became exponential so the numbers are crazy high.
_book_queen8 points3y ago
Hello I’m 251*!!! I feel old a’f
steam_rolls4 points3y ago
Same, my 2 years is coming up and about a week and mostly everyone I work with asks me how I know this or that
ericanicole12343 points3y ago
I was a 235 before I dipped out of that dumpster fire
VentiEggBite12 points3y ago
We have 29s now?? I’m a 26 and it makes me feel ancient
espressoonfleek8 points3y ago
29’s? 24 here :)
siriushendrix8 points3y ago
Hello fellow 24!
Lolindir935 points3y ago
29 eh? Man do I feel old with my 19...
happilyeveremma11 points3y ago
green beans have absolutely no right to act entitled. I’m a 222* and I’d fight a 289* if they were rude in my store.
steam_rolls2 points3y ago
One of the partners I work with worked with a partner that lied about their number saying they were a 255 why they were a 285 trying to tell older partners what to do.
pookienoodlin213 points3y ago
I left corporate 6 years ago. I was a 13*!
pookienoodlin211 points3y ago
I’m was a 133* left corporate 7 years ago

If anyone has read the book, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America by Barbara Ehrenreich, you might remember when the author interviewed people who worked minimum wage jobs.
She recounted how some Walmart employees would go shopping on their days off and make a mess looking at clothes etc.
Basically, when they had the opportunity the employees would dish out the same kind of treatment they were getting.
Not all employees are like this, it just reminded me of this.
LKP95 [OP]20 points3y ago
That's so strange to me. I don't think I could ever make a mess in a store on purpose. I would prefer to be better than those people.

To quote the song from Frozen, Fixer-Upper:
"People make bad choices if they're mad or scared or stressed
But throw a little love their way, and you'll bring out their best"

Good book!

I worked at a Tarbucks, and there was a girl who would come in that worked at the busiest Starbucks in town and made sure everyone knew it. She would ask for her drink at a specific temperature higher than the normal temperature for hot drinks (I forget the exact number).
So, I would put the steamer on "extra hot" mode and stop the wand when it reached her temperature. It worked fine every time and I made sure it landed on the exact degree. She'd lean over the counter and say "I DIDN'T ASK FOR EXTRA HOT" *every.* *time*. I would tell her my logic, and although I'd always get her drink at the exact temperature , she'd scoff and tell me the *more correct* way to have done it.
I could never fathom her Karen-like behavior. She was so rude. Like, we're all a family aren't we?? I would think you'd refrain from rudeness since we see it so often every day??
Vader_Boi12 points3y ago
Sometimes I’m just like “get your lazy ass in here and make your own damn drink” if not then stop talking and be patient for once in your life.
LKP95 [OP]11 points3y ago
That's so funny because everytime I go to Starbucks on my day off, I want to make my drinks myself so they don't have to. 😂

I was cs during this so I didn’t witness, but this morning my fellow shift was telling me about a customer who came through our drive, asked for a venti americano with no water, replaced with milk. Okayyyy, so.... a latte. My dto partner said “well, that is a latte, and because you want it made with milk I’m going to have to charge you for a latte” and this girl got UPSET. She argued with my baristas for a few minutes about how she usually orders it like that at ‘the other Starbucks’, a venti americano with an extra shot and no water, milk instead. Like. Sorry what?!? And THEN she says she was a partner for SIX MONTHS in Texas (we’re in Oklahoma) as if that was supposed to mean anything... the whole thing was bizarre and I wish I could have understood more what she meant or how she worked for the bux for six months without learning the difference between an americano and a latte... weird.
zoiebugs5 points3y ago
Hello! I work in Texas... That would mean nothing here as well. I have worked at a few stores who would have outright called the store she came from if she tried to pull some shady shit like that.
dammitchels1 points3y ago
Honestly I wish I could. We were wondering if she had said that just because or if it was actually true.
AndrewtheRey4 points3y ago
At my store if you want a drink like that, we will ring up an iced espresso and charge for the milk. Still cheaper than a latte but she should‘be known that if she was an employee
zephyrpriest8 points3y ago
This happens all the time when baristas come in with their personalized drinks but won’t be clear if the scoop of matcha is going inside the vanilla sweet cream foam or inside the pink drink. “Whichever” is not an answer!!
zoiebugs7 points3y ago
Man, I once had a partner who was visiting my city from out of town. At the time I was brand new at a healthy 226**** so I have no clue how new this girl was because This bitch had the audacity to walk behind the counter in her raggedy ass street clothes to make her own drink. We all paused and stared at her until she spoke. Only to say, "you guys looked busy and I didn't want to wait in line, but it's okay I work for Starbucks in *insert her city here* so I know what I'm doing. " I was thankfully not a shift at the time, but my shift in that moment just looked at her and said, "oh, no." I don't think she really had it in her to say anything else without being rude. The partner looked dumbfounded and we all kind of nodded in agreement with the shift. Was a wild time, and I will never forget.
espressnooo5 points3y ago
Newsflash. You can complain to your SM about them and they will ban them or call their SM about the situation. We just had a barista who was going transfer to our store get banned because her and her mother were so rude multiple times and her mother also tried using her benefits without her daughter. It isnt too hard to dismiss these partners just complain to your SM or DM or corporate
zeekthejeep4 points3y ago
I’m pretty sure Partners can be reported for their behavior as customers in stores (correct me if i’m wrong). But I feel you on this, especially coming from an area with so many near by stores!!
unsatisfied_plant4 points3y ago
I’m a 232**** and I’ve been with the company for nearly 4 years, and I swear some of the newer baristas are so damn entitled!! It’s a little crazy. This one girl works just outside of my district and I swear to god she only comes to our store to piss us off. She orders one thing at the speaker every time and then at the window, she’ll add 6-7 items but she’ll ask for each item individually and make us go back and forth across our store to grab them, and then she gets mad at us for taking so long! For the time I have been with the company, I have never acted like it’s the baristas fault for me being complicated and difficult.
julieCivil3 points3y ago
I had a Karen come in yesterday during morning rush, order 25 $6 gift cards and a double espresso on ice with a shot of cream. By the time she paid (she kept grabbing more gift cards for me to put $6 on), the line was out the door and we were above Covid capacity so I had to stop to ask people to wait outside. Then, as she stood in front of the bar like jabba the hut and blocked all traffic around her, she complained about her drink and had bar remake it 3 TIMES. She said, "I worked at Starbucks so I know what this is supposed to be like". God help me if I am ever this miserable.
cassiajoy3 points3y ago
Really though. The worst is the people who come and and insist on making it known that they “used to work at Starbucks.” 😒

Happy cake day

Omg at my store we had some lady come through who was a partner during when all the stores were closing down due to either cases in store or because they didn’t have enough partners, she came through our drive through & had the most insane order & then demanded that if the nitro keg was down to the bottom then to change it out. We didn’t know she was a partner until she got up to the window but we were like COME ON your a partner coming to literally the only Starbucks store left open within this district demanding that we switch out the nitro keg for you & want to be rude to the partners who are working their asses off during all this! Absolutely ridiculous!
jordan_leigh2 points3y ago
We have an ex partner come to our store and this Ishiguro he orders every day verbatim, “can I get 4 shots of ristretto espresso with 4 packs of raw sugar and then will you stir it until the sugar is completely broken down and pour into a grande cup of ice with light cream.”
Needless to say I cringe hearing it every day and I would be SO EMBARASSED if I felt I should be that specific about my order.....

I had a partner once want to let her friend use her discount, but the friend was paying for herself. We all know you can’t let others use your partner discount. So, I knew what she was trying to do was wrong, but I asked my shift just to double check and my shift went over to her and said she couldn’t do that unless she was gonna pay for her friends drink. Well this girl got all mad and started mumbling things under her breath like “this has never been a problem anywhere else” uhhh actually it is a BIG problem. You can literally get fired for that!
auroranavaar0 points3y ago
sometimes there was a red spot on the ground in the bathroom and i didn't know if it was blood and i felt like such a karen for letting the guy on reg know because he was like "No. It's not blood." like man i just wanted to let you know there might potentially be some cooch blood on your floor nbd 😭😭😭
pleasesurpriseme0 points3y ago
Last weekend during peak we had someone come through the drive with a few drinks they ordered kind of impatiently. Then, at the window- “I have partner numbers!” Of course you do. Then they asked for a trenta water too. Sorry! We’re out of trenta cups, I can get you a venti though. And then I made sure to have the smile reach my eyes (since half my face is covered in a mask) and say “if you wouldn’t mind ordering it at the speaker next time though? I can’t get it since I’m handling cash.” Oh oh, of course I just forgot. Okay dude, then go without. You work here. You know better.
Oh and he didn’t have a mask on. Shitty. Of course his numbers were 27something..
