This got way longer than expected so TL;DR: SM said something really shitty to a green bean which turned out to be false and kind of manipulative, and pissed off half of our shifts (probably all if they'd been here today). Is this allowed?

Been having a lot of issues with my store manager recently.

Yesterday when we had the 1 on 1 meeting about the three options, I said I was leaning towards the stay option - but she straight up said that I wasn't quite the person she's looking for to stay, but that she's ""excited!"" to keep me on if I do stay. Like..... damn, that's harsh, but okay.

She said I didn't have enough hustle and I wasn't friendly enough to the customers, but I've only had one complaint and that was when I first started working. It was literally my first week after training (and I only got one week of training!).

I asked two of my shifts about it and they both said I was doing a great job and I don't really need improvement. One of them said I was the best person out of all the green beans. I asked other baristas about it and they said I was great too. One called me essential and that she doesn't know how the shift would go without me. I'm sure she was just embellishing but it made me feel good. Also, one of my shifts said tomorrow they're going to tell SM how amazing I am and how much they need me, which again made me feel better. Anyway, it proves that it's literally just SM who has a problem with me.

But this story isn't really about me, it's just .. backstory on how harsh she is, I guess.

What I really need advice is on this: my SM is about to fire a green bean who's been here less time than me (I'll call her O). O is very sweet and incredible, I love working with her, but I do agree she can be better - but again! She's new! She was hired one week before the Covid LOA was offered. All the trainers took it so she was just thrown into this and received minimal training. So of course she isn't as caught up. But she's learning quickly. She's doing good.

Still, not good enough for SM apparently. Today was O's last day to show that she can step up and do what SM wants.

But SM didn't even work today LMAO. So what the fuck?

O told me that with these new options, now SM doesn't even have to fire her. She can save face because O can decide for herself! While telling me this, she nearly started crying.

But.. the worst thing that SM did was tell O, straight to her face:

>**All shifts would rather you be at home than on the floor with them.**

Which is a VERY shitty thing to say to someone, but the kicker?

O asked V (a shift) about it and V said she'd never said anything like that to SM. V told J, another shift, and J was pissed because they'd never said anything like that either and said that SM was putting words in their mouths.

SM LIED about this. It seems like she's manipulating O to take option 3 so she doesn't have to fire O and she'll look like a good manager.

I heard from another barista that she's done this before, too: she basically bullied another barista until they quit, rather than fire them.

So I'm wondering if that behavior is allowed, and if not, can I report it to someone? Unfortunately, it's not recorded, but we have 2/4 shifts saying that what SM said isn't true.

If it is allowed, it's terrible and I'm devastated for both O and me, but we can always look to transfer, huh?

Sorry this is so long. I'm just really heated, and I cried today on O's behalf and mine, and I'm just tired.

Document this. If SSV's and baristas are comfortable, have them sign your documentation as a testament that multiple people witnessed it. Immediately report to DM AND Partner Resources. Not okay at all. This manager needs to be fucking fired.

Report your trashy SM. You can get fired for gossiping about a barista and she is supposed to be the example for your store. Also, it has been made very clear from corporate that when having these conversations with our baristas, it is NOT an option to utilize this as a means to get rid of someone who isn't going through the corrective action process already.

I agree about her taking option 3. It leaves your rehire eligible so she can pursue a different store in the future.
But either way, you should report your SM.

fuck me this is horrendous.
hearsay won’t get anywhere though.

O needs to go find a better place
to work. Starbucks ain’t it.

Make them fire her or take option 3
so she can get unemployment and find a happy space.

Yeah, that's unfortunately what I was thinking. I'm so angry on O's behalf because she still wants to take option 2; she doesn't want to quit. And I just don't understand because if SM told me something like that to my face, I'd cry and probably quit right then haha. O is too nice!!
I'm trying to tell her to take 3, because if she takes 2 and then decides to quit, she won't get the package or be eligible for unemployment.
