Options affect SCAP (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by princess-di-dv
I am absolutely confused on how the options would affect SCAP eligibility. The document only says that our eligibility might be affected, but there is no more explanation other than that.
I was at first very confident that I was going to continue working, but I have been barely getting my 20 hours to stay eligible. If I were to take LOA what does that really mean for my eligibility.
Any clarifications would be so helpful please.

Hi! This was actually a question one of my partners had for me which I escalated to my DM who escalated to get an answer because the document does seem to contradict itself. To try to explain it best I can:

If you were not working enough hours for eligibility prior to cat pay and now you’re just credited for 20hrs it’s likely you won’t be eligible. If up until this point you have been credited with min 20 hours a week for the eligibility period, you will likely retain that benefit.

But in passing that information on I tell my partner that I’m not 100% sure in her case, just 95% but tell them to call PRSC 1 888 SBUX 411 to verify that you have met the minimum hours within the eligibility period thus far and will retain.

so just a little clarification. I’ve been able to retain the 20 hour minimum. So if I were to go on LOA, I’d still be eligible?

To be clear possibly, but I am not in a position to tell you with absolutely certainty and will not. But you can call PRSC who can tell you with certainty

i will be calling them, but thank you so much for the information

Of course. Half the battle as a barista without all the information is not knowing your resources and how accessible they are.

I just wanna add. That they re-evaluated the hours needed to qualify. So you still need to hit minimum hours (20 hours a week on LOA)

But they slightly decreased the minimum to 450 hours over the course of 6 months. That’s about 75 hours a month which is about 1.25 hours a week less.

Still. If you’re worried about being that close to the precipice definitely try calling ASU Starbucks finances. They’re really nice and very helpful.

I don’t know if you have seen posting on here about the PDF available on Partner Hub. Search for Partner Care Preference and look through the 12 pages. My understanding is Yes, ASU is NOT a guaranteed benefits. If you do fall below 20 hours, you might not be qualified. With option 2, they go by your average hours since you’ve been hired so you might not qualify either if you don’t average 20. With option 3, I believe they do pay for one more semester. Hope this helps.
