What do y'all think about this? (i.redd.it)

It’s a privilege to say this. For some people, existing is inherently political
nightkat89 16 points 3y ago
As a trans woman at the siren, I support this.
ChthonicDreamer 2 points 3y ago
Same
CreepleCorn 6 points 3y ago
Kudos for saying it. Being ignorant to/unaffected by sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia etc. is a privilege in itself.

Being a different skin colour shouldn't be a political issue. But ffs we're not there yet, and for as long as we aren't, *everything* is political.

that part
bedusseyy 25 points 3y ago
human rights are not a matter of differing political opinions
ItsMamaB [OP] -1 points 3y ago
What do you mean?
bedusseyy 11 points 3y ago
things that’s are political opinions:

-should we levy another school tax this year

-do we need a light rail for our city

-how much of the state budget should go to road upkeep this year

things that are not political opinions:

-are gay people human beings

-are Black people bad

-are war crimes bad

-are nazis bad

we have reached a point in society where somehow human rights and morality are considered political opinions which is just not accurate.
Jewicer 20 points 3y ago
Denouncing racism isn’t political.
Whagarble 10 points 3y ago
Did you start discussing an infrastructure bill at work one day?

Or the electoral college?

Or are you referring to human rights abuses and police brutality? Cause those aren't politics.
naadzzz 8 points 3y ago
i mean yeah i guess i agree to some extent, only bc i feel like it just creates problems within the employees bc it’s rare to find that everyone agrees with everyone
VectoredClarinet 3 points 3y ago
Our own supreme court would disagree. The "Citizen's United" decision essentially declared that corporations and employers have the same rights as individual citizens to engage in political action.

IMHO, people who support OP's position tend to forget about the millions of dollars that Corporate America spends every year on lobbying, contributions to lawmakers who write business friendly policy, and their own public relations. Until ordinary Americans' voices can be represented in the political system with the same weight and significance as these corporate dollars, I would argue that politics HAS to be a part of the workplace.

BLM is a political tho is a human decency issue
cobanat -10 points 3y ago
People just can’t seem to let others have different opinion.
bedusseyy 4 points 3y ago
when your differing opinion supports the continuation of systemic racism and murder of Black people then your opinion is a bad take
cobanat 4 points 3y ago
Im not referring to systemic racism or murder of black people. I’m more saying that when you talk about your opinion, It feels like anyone can say “My favorite color is red therefore red is the best color ever” and someone else goes “Oh yea well my favorite color is blue so therefore blue is the best color ever you communist trash!”

Im not talking about the current events right now I’m just making a general statement. It applies to every opinion whether political, racial, or favorite color related. Besides, the right answer is purple.

Name one person who directly support the direct systematic oppression of minority groups Mr. IAmAlwaysRight (obviously not members of racist cults, cause that game can be played both ways).
bedusseyy 3 points 3y ago
1) *systemic

2) i’m non binary

3) i genuinely don’t understand what you’re asking here because supporting the militarization of police is supporting systemic oppression of minorities, the police force was initially created as a way to round up escaped slaves, it’s rooted in systemic racism and oppression, and is in desperate need of defunding and a system overhaul

4) just because someone is not overtly racist doesn’t mean they don’t hold racist ideologies. these ideologies and prejudices have been ingrained in us since birth, and it is not enough to be not racist, we have to actively be anti-racist. i myself in the last week have done a lot of self reflecting on past micro aggressions i’ve committed to and around my Black friends, and am making an effort to educate myself and keep myself in check going forward, along with calling out those micro aggressions that i see happening around me
TylerTheBox 1 points 3y ago
1. Oh sheeeeeeit, not muh heckin grammarinos, noooooooo.

2. Didn’t know your gender identity, didn’t ask, don’t care, not relevant.

3. Do you think society would function without a method of enforcing laws and protecting people and property? I can just as easily bring up how how Planned Parenthood was targeted at minority groups, does this take away from the end goal of women’s right to bodily autonomy? Or mean we should shut down funding? No, many things and ideologies were created by and for “wrong” or immoral purposes, doesn’t negate the current mission nor goal.

4. I’m not even disagreeing lol, but the amount of radicalized speech coming from the current BLM push (not even gonna call it a movement cause this group has been SILENT since the last election cycle) is worrying. Glad you’re moving towards your view and goal of self-betterment, and I will fully support you—but I’m going to call you out when you wanna paint anyone politically disagreeing with you as a “racist, or any other derogatory term.
TylerTheBox 2 points 3y ago
No one has a problem with differing options, many have a problem with discussing them in inappropriate places.
ItsMamaB [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Yes, that's it exactly
TylerTheBox 1 points 3y ago
I’m glad someone agrees lol, every time I say something like this in a Starbucks sub, it’s guaranteed downvoted.
