why are we hiring when our hours are getting cut???(self.starbucksbaristas)

I just don’t get it. my hours are getting cut by 10-15 hours/week but we can still afford to hire like 7 new people?? I’d get maybe 1 or 2 to help fill in some gaps but why do we need so many?

I was told there’s a co- wide hiring freeze by my SM, confirmed by another peeps SM- til oct 1., incl promotions to different stores, which I guess is considered a ‘hire’.

My manager told me she needed to hire people because we’re really understaffed, and have more than enough hours because we’re really busy all the time. She’d probably be really pissed to hear this if it’s true company wide.

It’s not company wide. Just store by store basis. If you store needs partners, your DM will probably transfer partners from other stores and if there is not enough partners, your SM will hire new ones.

Yeah, they hired me the day my store closed down, said that they would keep in touch, then trained me in a closed store and the day we opened up put me right on the floor.

I guess they must have squeezed them in right before this went into effect?? idk all I know is that over the past three weeks I have trained 4 new people, and that’s just me and the morning crew. I think there are one or two in the evening crew as well.

Good. Hours are cut. It makes no sense to thin out an already thin pool of hours.
They want to make sure those who are already partners are taken care of before bringing new staff on.

I know this post is older, and idk about your store but I was just hired a couple weeks ago. My store is right off a really busy road, and most of our business comes from drive thru so we honestly were effected much by the lobby closure, and apparently we needed more people. If there is a hiring freeze it was not in place just a few weeks ago when I applied and was hired
