ugh. this is why i’m putting off telling my manager. i know mine will be upset as well. but also, fuck both of our managers lmao
MikIsDead15 points3y ago
we deserve better!!!!
PossibleWishbone136 points3y ago
I chose option 2 and my manager kept referencing, “Well IF WE APPROVE then we’ll let you know.” “Well IF WE COME TO A DECISION then we’ll notify you when it goes into affect.”
Like wtf? Are these options or not? Because you can’t have a mandated meeting with everyone about having three options and then act like they’re not an option to begin with.
MikIsDead28 points3y ago
they cant confirm anyones decisions yet because if too many people take the severance/LOA they wont have enough wage slaves to run skeleton crew 🤪
PossibleWishbone18 points3y ago
Honestly even if it WASN’T a “PrEfErEnCe” I was planning on taking a LOA, anyway. The re-opening of the seating/cafe area and bathrooms (and our bathrooms get BAD with the amount of drug using and just straight up disrespect people have) isn’t something I’m a fan of. We already have customers stating that it’s their “god given right” to NOT wear a mask and I cannot deal with that selfishness and entitlement.
I (and Starbucks, I guess) can only do so much to protect myself and Starbucks has made it clear that their basically at their wits end with protecting us so I will take matters into my own hand and just...idk...leave? 🙈
Anyway, to circle back to the og point I just don’t understand managers who get upset & take offense when you present your preference. It’s seems more of a “who’s gonna work for my store now? :(“ instead of “I want my partners to do whatever they feel is best for them.”
luckybean92 points3y ago
I am so stressed about cafe reopening, people already touch my grands and grab the card reader right out of my hands getting their unwashed hand germs all over it in the drive through and come inside without masks trying to sit and YELL AT BARISTAS who literally have nothing to do with the companies choices, about not being able to use out bathroom. And it’s not their “god given right” to not wear masks. Most places require it. Starbucks should have made masks a requirement when they allows reopening. Just proves further how much they don’t give a crap about their peasant workers safety
PossibleWishbone12 points3y ago
If I wasn’t a germaphobe before this whole pandemic, I definitely am now! I didn’t realize how irresponsible and disgusting a lot of human beings can be. I, too have lots of customers that like to gently caress my hand when I’m giving them their drink or whatever the case may be and all I can think of is “germs!”
The quantity of people overpowers face masks. Which means there could be 150 people in the cafe and they’re all wearing face masks but the fact of the matter is, THERE ARE STILL SO MANY PEOPLE IN CLOSE CONTACT. The masks they provide are already so thin and it was proven that the virus will definitely slip through them so I’m not taking any risks. We all (if not most of us) have a family to go home to. A lot of managers are playing the “well we can’t afford to lose out on sales” card so they’re letting people walk in and out without masks (not my store, thank god) but Jesus...

Your cafe is opening its seating- when?
PossibleWishbone12 points3y ago
June 8th. When I spoke to my manager about the three options I asked her if the state opening back up is going to mean that customers could sit inside, again and she sadly shook her head yes.

It also allows those who do get option 2 and 3 to get unemployment, because it wasn't technical their decision.
ashley-leigh4 points3y ago
I’m so sorry your manager responded this way! I hope you end up getting your preference! I chose option 2 as well, and was worried that my manager would not be happy about this, but she already knew I was leaning towards this as I’ve been off since we were given the option in March and she knows I live at home with my parents who are older and have health issues. She even told me “don’t worry, I won’t pull you out of LOA earlier” and I was SHOCKED! She hasn’t always been very nice and understanding. But then again, I may be one of the only ones at my store to chose this option, everyone else is going with option 1. Maybe that’s why she was so cool about it. I feel relieved and it really sucks to hear that other partners aren’t made to feel that way by their SM.
mykotman124 points3y ago
They are not options. They are preferences and based on your district needs they might not approve your preference for LOA.
DirtyDarling4426 points3y ago
I feel bad for everyone who’s manager is being a dick about it. Mine was basically like “hey I think they are all good options and even though I’d prefer if everyone stayed I understand why they wouldn’t.” And if some of us pick options 2 or 3 then he’s happy to fill the store with partners from other stores who need hours. Sometimes I’m on this subreddit reading post and I feel so lucky to be at my store and work with the people that I do. I’m so sorry you guys.
spectreux9 points3y ago
I’m with you, it upsets me that some fellow partners aren’t put in a good position. My manager and I had a really good conversation. And made sure that it was pretty clear that she’d make that she looked into on a basis of who deserved or needs the LOA more. If that wasn’t an option, she even brought up more options she would be willing to do that aren’t mentioned in the preferences. I’m blessed to have a good manager and team, it wasn’t that way at first, but it got there for me. Wishing my partners the best choice for them, even if it’s leaving the company. :)
sassy7girl1 points3y ago
If they’re filling the store with other peeps do you think you’ll get your same store back after the leave? Or they’ll shuffle peeps back out to accommodate you?
DirtyDarling442 points3y ago
I’m staying. But I assume my manager would find a way to make sure they got to come back to the store.
sassy7girl1 points3y ago
That’s awesome! Good luck! Be well! 😊
futurdoc13 points3y ago
I told my manager that I wanted the severance package and they passive aggressively said,
“OK.” *aggressively types on keyboard* “Thanks for your time.”
During our conversation, I told them I had an interview for a job that would write me a letter of rec for med school (which is super important to me) and that I wouldn’t have enough time in my life to work 3 jobs and do full time in school, I would be killing myself. They proceeded to tell me that I should quit my job at the hospital in the SURGICAL DEPARTMENT WHERE I MAKE $20/HR for Starbucks ((: Needless to say, I told him that I would not give up my dreams for a minimum wage job. Waiting for the response now about when my last day can be thankfully!
MikIsDead8 points3y ago
go you for getting out!!!
also, i got hired at a way better job today!
futurdoc2 points3y ago
Congrats! Happy that you were able to make a transition as well!!
MikIsDead1 points3y ago
💛💛💛
kbattaglia1013 points3y ago
Chase your dreams, don’t give up and don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t worth it
golden_pinky6 points3y ago
I feel like if I was a manager, I would be happy to let people go because I need to decrease my staff no matter what and I'm not going to be bitter just because a good one left. Like, grow up, your employees have lives and needs and don't owe Starbucks shit.
colonade176 points3y ago
What's the point of presenting us with "options" if we can't actually choose an option?
qwasyas6 points3y ago
Same. I told my DM that I wanted to take the severance and he asked what my second preference was, I said take the severance. I can’t do it anymore. I have been backed into so many corners with starbucks. I’m done.
PossibleWishbone12 points3y ago
Props to you, I love it when people refuse to bend over backwards for big named companies and corporations who wouldn’t do the same for them. My boyfriend quit his job the minute COVID hit the tri-state area HARD meanwhile I’m just now deciding to take my LOA four months later...
dreamgifter5 points3y ago
I was literally told today since I had previously told my manager I was moving and wanted to leave sbux I was ineligible for the severance package. And like wtf. And then he preceded to tell me oh it was only an option blah blah only for partners who’s hours got really cut or stores who shut down, we have so many hours because we’re so busy (which is true), but dude. I’m just so tired. And don’t even know what to do. And it makes me so angry that he told me way after the fact of calling me and saying here’s your options, isn’t this awesome they’re doing this and at a good time for you. And then this shit above he told me today. I’m sorry for ranting. Just had to rant somewhere.
luckybean93 points3y ago
I took option 2 because I was too scared to say I wanted to quit but I have a second job specifically because I’ve been planning to quit, I just didn’t want to quit RIGHT after I transferred to a new store. I literally cannot wait to get the hell away from this company!! My second job is such a breath of fresh air compared to the rough conditions working here
MikIsDead1 points3y ago
i just transferred a month ago but this store is bad enough for me to want to separate. this whole district i moved to has like. an extreme management problem 😰
HollowRibcage3 points3y ago
Shiii man. Why is this a trend happening lately? Like today went to hell for me- so much so that my shift ended up letting me get off early because I was a wreck. Well my GM messaged being supportive and such but for reasons of early leaving I had to go back to the store to tend to some things on the partner info. She hadn’t had the meeting with me yet about the three options but previously I read the 12pg document before.. and I mentioned taking the 3rd option and she completely recoiled and her whole vibe changed around me.
Like. What ?
MikIsDead2 points3y ago
i’ve been crying so much at work lately, so glad to be leaving even if i don’t get the dang severance. the working conditions have been so brutal
HollowRibcage1 points3y ago
It’s so saddening man. And I get some places have it bad or even worse too but that doesn’t always make it any better ._. The severance shouldn’t be optional or selective though. It’s partner choice. I feel like if a manager does this partner resources should be called. Or your district/regional manager. Especially when a manager pulls the same thing similar to a parent with a kid when they want something. “I’ll let you choose. But that doesn’t mean you’ll get it”
lunabean1343 points3y ago
I told my SM that I'm trying to make the best decision for myself and my family financially. I would love to keep working but if I'm only getting 20 hours a week, that's not enough to pay rent or survive.
From what I was told, if business keeps growing like it has been at our store, the people who choose "preference" 2 will be called back in as soon as a week after they take the leave due to stores business growing. This being said, this growth might not continue and we could once again be facing super low hours which means I'm screwed since I can't take option 2, which feels like the safest financial option.
It's bologna. I could be getting paid more on unemployment and keeping my family safe, but if I choose that it's likely I'll be right back at work within a week. My SM even told me they're probably going to call in people who have been on an unpaid leave since CAT pay ended. My main problem with this is, some of the people they're going to call in have medical conditions and took the unpaid leave because they literally don't want to die over coffee.... I'm just shocked.
There's no controlling our safety. There's no controlling our income. There's nothing but a green apron, frappuccinos, and angry people to look forward to until....well who knows when.
sassy7girl2 points3y ago
If you gross under your states top unemployment payment any by even a buck/ you should qualify for partial compensation plus the extra 600 thru end of July, for ‘lack of hours’
lunabean1342 points3y ago
I really appreciate the advice! I've been trying to figure out how to file for lost wages and I wasn't sure if it would honestly help, but with how things are going I'm going to jump on it.
sassy7girl1 points3y ago
Sure thing- good luck, be well!
gothgrrrl3 points3y ago
I feel so trapped by the three options. I didn’t really want to quit but I have no choice. So fuck Starbucks and fuck my manager and fuck my asm. I’ve already filed complaints against both of them for forcing me to work when I was sick. Fuck the shifts too, they’re all sleeping with each other and don’t do their jobs. What a relief it’ll be to step away from such a toxic store and a toxic company
MikIsDead3 points3y ago
sounds just like my current store! absolute trash
gothgrrrl3 points3y ago
Ugh good for us on getting out! Good luck with everything!!
MikIsDead2 points3y ago
you too! xo
femalehomosapien181 points3y ago
LMFAO I FELT THOS COMMENT IN MY SOUL
himynametopher2 points3y ago
I took option 3 and my manager was like it's essentially the only guaranteed option in my district
christinekwine1 points3y ago
Can anyone that has it send me the 12pg document? I want to read over it without judgement from my SM for a couple days before talking to him. I’ve been on LOA since COVID started because I’m high risk.
