Seeing a lot of old lists resurfacing calling out companies for alleged use of prison labor.
Some of them I believe to be outdated, and Starbucks is one of them...but I honestly have no idea.
In 2002 an article was published that detailed a response from Starbucks regarding their affiliation with Signature Packing Solutions, which operates within the prison system. Starbucks claimed the contract to be
$1In 2018
$1 reported that Starbucks said it “currently had no business relationships” with inmate labor suppliers.
However there is an article from
$1 citing a couple of instances where Starbucks “certified” farms in Brazil were employing slave labor, despite the Starbucks issued “seal of good practice.”
I’ve also seen multiple lists from different sources saying that the prison workers contracted for Starbucks work can make as little as 23 cents per hour...
But it’s always backed up by the same hotlink which leads to
$1, which doesn’t actually specifically mention Starbucks or Signature Packaging Solutions at all.
So just trying to collect more facts!
Not super interested in anyone’s opinion on prison/slave labor, so please don’t feel inclined to share. Lol.
I’m only looking for other articles and resources to confirm or deny the CURRENT employment of such labor via Starbucks.
Thank you!
