Complaints about an openly racist manager (self.starbucksbaristas)

So my manager is openly racist, she has stated that she “Mexicans need to be trained to behave” and she has what she believed was a Native American rain dance on the floor in front of a bunch of people. She refuses to hire black people because they are “unprofessional” (her words). She isn’t just openly racist, she pushes her views about religion and politics onto people. She is also openly homophobic.

Also, when we were having meetings about our feelings and how COVID-19 has affected us.. she flat out said that she didn’t believe in the virus and she doesn’t understand why so many people took leave when we could. She also doesn’t wear her mask really ever and makes fun of the people who do.

A lot of people at my store and me have made complaints to PCC and the Ethics and Compliance resource. When contacting PCC they ask for your name and partner numbers, etc.. then they tell your district manager who you were even if you say you want to remain anonymous, my manager pries our names out of our DM and retaliates against us for opening cases against her.. She talks to us about the case, which she isn’t supposed to do, AND she schedules us less hours.

I want to know if you guys have made complaints about an SM over and over again, many people making the same complaints and if anything has been done about it?

I would take “preference 3” but I can’t afford to not have a job when my wife goes off to boot camp for the navy. I also need to be able to transfer jobs when she hits A-school. If that wasn’t happening so soon I would rake “preference 3”

edit: added the stuff about COVID-19, people have also complained about that too so I felt like I needed to add it

I am very petty and VERY much about not letting people in power have their way. What I would do if I were you is climb up the ladder myself.
First, document every complaint you know of. Write it out in a cause/effect way. You know this complaint was filed, she found out through DM, her reaction was this.
Write it ALL clearly.
Then, start with the DM’s manager. If that doesn’t work, find out who’s above them. And above them. And so forth.
PCC can’t be all that helpful. Maybe if you spoke directly to HR. And then ask for their manager too. 😂
But I am not afraid of confrontation so I’d be meeting with everyone I could.

I have talked to my DM and my RM about it. No one will give me information on how to go higher they just keep saying to call PCC. PCC is HR.. They don’t have separate lines to call anymore. It’s getting to a point of ridiculous though, especially with the protests and riots going on in the world.

Customer here. Can you file an in-person complaint with PCC since businesses in certain areas are relaxing certain Covid-19 guidelines (office personnel teleworking, etc)? Do not pass go on this. Go to your next level (if its PCC) if your DM and RM efforts have been exhausted. Just have documentation that proves that you went to both in order to CYA.

The only thing we can do at Starbucks is call and continue to update our case with how things are going. I have all of my notes, and PCC has been notified that I have spoken to both me DM and RM.

My mom told me when I was having an issue with a past manager that HR is there for the managers not lower level employees. It’s starting to seem that way.

If she is not wearing a mask she is putting you at harms way call the COVID hot line and report your store for not enforcing proper procedures.

Starbucks won’t do anything your mom is right, HR is there for the SM’s not for us, remember baristas are always replaceable I know it sucks to hear that. But the sooner you realize Starbucks isn’t the golden child of company’s the better. Just don’t stand down keep reporting records conversation, not video but voice recording.

Does Starbucks have a union where you can file a grievance? There has to be a way if your claim isn't taken seriously + escalated to the proper authority.

Last time I spoke to PCC they had to transfer me to HR for a name change. If there’s no way to find out who’s above the RM write a LETTER TO KEVIN BACON HIMSELF.

That’s a different department within PCC, I just did a name change 2 months ago.
I might be doing that soon if she says anything about the riots. I can’t handle this anymore. She was around when we had to close all of our stores and have the meeting about treating people right.. she took that as a joke and it’s just gotten worse from there

Document, document, document!!! Get alllll the proof you can and take it all the way to the top. Try to get your fellow partners to submit complaints too. There’s a strict no retaliation policy so if you manager tries to fire you or cut your hours because they find out you submitted something against them, ring up corporate and you’ll be compensated well and placed in a better environment

I have documented all of the instances that have been unprofessional and offensive. I have also documented when I have talked to corporate and when I have contacted ethics and compliance. ALL of the partners at my store have made complaints about my manager.. so I don’t know what corporate is doing. I already tried to call corporate for retaliation and they told me that I need to take it up with my district manager who then did nothing about it.
