Hazard pay? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jezebelbell
We’re no longer receiving hazard pay. The number of COVID-19 cases just spiked as my state reopened.

Thoughts?

Ive been working at starbucks at the airport since the whole covid thing happened...I went into work yesterday and no one is wearing masks around the airport (although it’s required to wear it on the plane)
The majority of people still pay in cash and all I have is a small plexi glass that’s sitting on front of the register.....it’s not even sitting between me and the customer...
we never got hazardous pay...
I wish I got furloughed and received unemployment. Too late now since business is picking up and we need baristas...
Where is everyone traveling to?!

If you don’t want to work because you don’t want to be potentially exposed, you have an option of taking an LOA or quitting.
jezebelbell [OP] 5 points 3y ago
I’m aware and I can’t take the LOA :/
KelseyDove 6 points 3y ago
Probably because OP needs to pay bills. the LOA is unpaid leave.

Why can’t you take the LOA?
MissCleoDarling 2 points 3y ago
Your store can't have the potential 20 hrs per employee per week in order to qualify for LOA.

So when your store has 600 hours that need to be scheduled in a given week, and you have 30 baristas, you wouldn't qualify because technically everyone could be working 20 hours so in the eyes of Starbucks, that's enough to go around, thus not working is voluntary ie. Not there problem.

Its dumb, because obviously shifts will have well more than 20, leaving less available hours for everyone else and even if you get 20, that might not be enough to pay your bills

Its good for the low traffic stores but mid volume stores are linda screwed

I was told the CAT fund is almost completely drained, that's why this whole 3 preference thing was started.
