SM of bf's store is not handling a really important decision well (COVID-19 RELATED) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by catsoserra
My bf has a coworker who has a 2nd job and THEIR coworker (she works at a bank) was showing signs for COVID. She was sent home early yesterday and so was her husband (they both work at my bf's store). They were planning on quarantining for 2 weeks but now my bf's new stand in manager is trying to have the husband come back in to work only after 24 hrs. My bf has diabetes, asthma and a heart murmur. He also does regular hormone injections every 2 weeks so his immune system is shot. He is hella immunocompromised. His manager has expressed no empathy and is basically like "sucks you gotta come in anyway if he is there." All he asked her was to wait for the COVID results of the wife's coworker to come in (which takes just a few days).

What the heck can we do about this??? We are currently talking to the husband about how he feels about the situation. The husband and wife are amazing and sweet people. The manager just sucks ass.

UPDATE: So thankfully the wife's coworker tested negative and the husband is returning to the store! The wife was told to continue to stay in quarantine for the next 2 weeks. Very confusing communication issues between the SM and DM but I'm just happy that they're safe from potentially getting COVID.

I thought I had seen somewhere that if you were exposed or showing symptoms, it was 72 hours away from work mandatory, might wanna call PCC. I called them when the paid leave was just starting and was told they cannot make you come if you fall into that category. I'm sure they'll be pissed but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It is! I got food poisoning a few weeks ago, but because I threw up and also had a few other symptoms I wasn’t allowed to return for 72 hours. (We found out the next day it was poisoning not illness.) I called my manager to tell her, and she said, “thanks for the update but because I had been throwing up I have to stay home for AT LEAST 72 hours, and it’s just safer all around for everyone. Even just mentally.”

I would call Partner Resources, give direct quotes is the manager said anything like “I’m sorry but if you’re expected to come in.” Is INSANE. And report that. And frankly I think if the wife does come back with covid your store shuts down for two weeks.

Just call resources and spill your guts because this SM is wilding right now-especially considering SHES actively putting her entire team at riskz
