So. I just want to get something off my chest. I’ve noticed that a lot of you think you’re hot shit because you’re fast on bar, which is cool and all- good for you whatever-, but I’ve also noticed a lot of you that are fast on bar also don’t make really good drinks. Like they could be so much better if you took just a tiny bit more time crafting them. And as a barista that REALLY wants to get faster (and be good enough to bar during peak) but NOT compromise the integrity of my drinks it really pisses me off that shifts will literally put the same person/people on bar all the fucking time purely for the fact that they’re “fast” when the drink could literally be so much better. Like I get that Starbucks really pressures us on how fast we are, but imo we should be so much less focused on that and more focused on quality because come on... these drinks are WAY over priced and we should at LEAST have the decency to give our customers something that is somewhat reasonable for the price they’re paying. And yeah I get the whole “well nobody forced them to come here” or the “coming here is a choice” argument, but BRUH. It’s so frustrating. I take pride in making some pretty/delicious drinks (even though I’m slow af at times and not the best by any means), and some of you act like you couldn’t care less and it makes me so mad cause it’s literally your job to make drinks.
And yeah this is just “in a perfect world” kind of thing, but it literally makes me so upset.
Be mad at me if you want, but I really just needed to vent.

I know what you are saying, but as long as the drink looks standard and is made and tastes right, that is all that matters when it is super busy. you have to be able to make good quality drinks in a short amount of time. it sucks but it’s the truth. now, i do agree that pretty drinks are awesome! i would love to be able to take time and practice large art or whatever, so when we are slower sometimes I will, but other than that, peak is go time.

yeah that’s fine and great, but I’m specifically talking about drinks that come out looking like ass and the barista sees literally nothing wrong with it when it’s CLEARLY wrong just because they’re so focused and so rushed to be getting those drinks out the window

Also if I catch someone making a caramel macchiato without any foam and hurriedly squeezing caramel that immediately falls to the bottom of the cup ONE MORE TIME 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

bRuh that’s like the #1 drink people fuck up CONSISTENTLY because they don’t foam their milk properly because they’re trying to just get them done. And it’s not just the baristas that are contributing to this garbage fire. It’s shifts that repeatedly keep the same people in the same exact spots every single peak. I absolutely love being on bar and making drinks because 1. I actually enjoy my job, and 2. It’s so fucking rewarding to make something good enough that a customer compliments it. Even if they don’t say jack shit or even taste the drink, it makes me feel fucking good just knowing I made the best drink I could 🤷🏽♀️ but apparently none of that matters during peak.

Exactly!!! I swear I’ve opened the lids to lattes and seen like two inches missing from the cup and I’ll turn around and be like “remake this.” Idgaf about drive through times that person is paying nearly six bucks for this!! 😩
Skitsskatss3 points3y ago
YESSSS THANK YOU!!!! I swear people think making drinks fast makes them oh so talented but guess what???? The customer you gave that shitty watery Frappuccino with a dollop of whipped cream to is gonna come back later for a remake!! I swear the amount of extra extra foam lattes with two inches missing from the cup is really starting to bother me

Well Im slow on bar and can not do multiple drinks at once which I’m always amazed on how they do it lol I can max make 3 at a time that’s it lol but unfortunately it’s a fast food coffee business it’s all speed and this morning my drink was made wrong which I hate but don’t complain cause they were slammed. If anything just work on your speed and if your fast and able to make it a quality perfect drink then more power to ya, then teach me your ways hahah

I don’t believe in not saying anything when my drink is wrong. Unless it’s a headass drink that has way too many customizations, there’s no reason for it to be wrong the first time. Simple and easy fix mistakes are one thing, like making a hot drink iced by accident or whatever, but what I’m getting at is people that are going way too fast to focus on the small details that make huge differences.

Oh ok makes sense

I hear where you're coming from, but I ain't gonna lie to ya, man, I really don't give a fuck about the quality of the drinks I make. I rarely have people bitch about the drinks and want them remade and usually when they do it's because of their particular stupid tastes, not because the drink itself is fucked up.
greenapro [OP]1 points3y ago
but the fact that you’re just admitting you couldn’t care less about your own hand crafted drinks is sad. It’s literally your job. attitude reflects in work ethic and that shit ass attitude is just... well, I’m sorry for you bro.

Lmao nah, that's a load of malarkey. I hate this job and it's a load of crap. The only thing I'm here for is asu. Jobs like this that put you through humiliating, stressful circumstances of having to serve the public and don't even pay you a living wage are inhumane and I refuse to take this shit seriously. This company is nothing but a billion dollar slave machine that takes advantage of people in poverty to do their dirty work. Save your pity for yourself, dude- if you're delusional enough to think there's any point in giving a fuck about this job, you clearly need it more than I do. Once I get that degree I'm leaving and never looking back. You're wasting your energy being invested in this job by even an iota when you could be bettering yourself and your future job prospects. Your perfectly made 'handcrafted beverages' are an absolute cope and you know it. Stop wasting your time, get a degree and get the fuck out.

No I just appreciate the job I have and the people I work with. I knew what I was walking into when I applied for the job and got it. I also realize if I ever get sick of it, I can just as easily quit. It’s not shit unless you make it that way and allow people to get under your skin, which seems to be easy for an impressionable child like you. You’re talking shit about a company while piggybacking on them and relying on them for education? Yeah, I’M the one that needs this job CLEARLY. You’re also assuming everything about me just because I enjoy my job because I have fun?? You must be a joy to have around.
thrownawaylattes0 points3y ago
Oh, I love my coworkers plenty, too. They make this shit bearable. And yeah. I do need this job for the benefits. That's why I hate them. They take advantage of people in poverty like me and dangle benefits over our head they know we can't get elsewhere and use it as an excuse to pay us minimum wage that no one can actually live off of. Every retail corporation does this. For someone that's in the same job as me, it strikes me as peculiar that you're unable to understand that and instead feel the need to attack me. You call me an impressionable child when you're unable to notice such a glaringly obvious aspect of the relationship between employer and employee at jobs like this. I made fewer assumptions about you than you made about me, but your behavior in this post does hint at a few characteristics of yourself and your life- you're coming from an immature, privileged point of view and never had to deal with poverty. You haven't dealt with the types of struggles in life that force you to ruthlessly look out for yourself to survive and so you're able to buy into the bullshit this corporation is selling you. You don't need this job unlike many of your fellow baristas who either can't afford healthcare or exorbitant college tuition and don't yet have a degree to find a job that doesn't manipulate them and treat them like disposable trash. You see these drinks we make as fun, people like me see this as bullshit this fucked up system forces us to go through just to be able to earn the privilege of supporting ourselves. I could go through your post history and find shit to throw ad-hominems at you like you've done to me, but I'm not gonna go that low and leave my point at this.
