I would love a change to the pin policy (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by c_azzimiei
I’m a barista in a district that is suuuper lax on dresss code, and from day one I’ve always worn non-Starbucks pins on my apron. None of them are at all political, but they showcase my interests (like my tea-Rex or space out pins) and a lot of my best customer connections have come from people asking about my pins. I really think Starbucks needs to change the policy to allow non-Starbucks-related pins as long as they’re not super distracting or showcasing political/religious opinions. This would be so good for customer connections and honestly I just love getting to collect pins and fancy up my apron with them, and I wish baristas across the board could get to do that.

i used to work with someone who had like 40 pins on his apron. maybe 1 was related to sbux and my manager didnt care. sooo its probably just another one of those notorious sbux "rules" that applies differently from store to store

Pretty sure we are allowed to wear pins of any kind that don’t promote religion, political affiliations or are against Stabrucks guidelines.

I wore Star Wars pins (I had the first order logo pin and the bounty hunter pin) as well as a Katara pin.

Got one question about the bounty hunter but showed it was a geeky reference and never bothered about it again

The official dress code states only Starbucks pins are allowed (read the blm update for clarification). Individual stores like mine may be more lax but I would like the company policy overall to change.

Lol sorry just realized how redundant I was just now.. sorry haven’t had dinner! But I was trying to say was “Oh I bet you’re right because of the update!” 🤣🤣🤣 I didnt meant to say my same assumption again lololol

Oh I guess it was updated. I haven’t read the updates but to my understanding they didn’t care so long as it wasn’t directly affiliated with politics, religion, and anything against starbucks mission and values. I wore those pins for literally 6 years and never had a comment made, besides the one asking where my bounty hunter pin was from.

big agree on this one mainly because I got told I couldn't wear the pronouns pin I have and had to wear the Starbucks Brand ™️ one instead.....even though that one is less than half the size of the one I had and the letters are so small it's practically unreadable to customers.... :/

I agree that the pin policy is ridiculous. I wear a Kind pin from Penzey's and no one has said anything. I also wear an 'I Love You' hand shape pin to express that I can sign. I didn't want to go through the rigamarole of setting up a call with a professional because I'm nervous enough as it is to talk to a Deaf customer, so I'd rather just do this. I got approval from my SM for the ASL pin, and I followed dress code for the other pin (you're allowed to have one non-Bux pin to show an affiliation or something like that). To me, kindness is universal.
